Despite the Abscences and the lies I thouroghly enjoyed the Film. However I could't help noticing 4 people walk out after the Ian Curtis Hanging Scence.
Any one else experience this ?
Maybe they were Steve Coogan fans who didn't know what they were in for or may they only went for that bit, Who knows ?
I take back everything I said about Coogan/Partridge - he does a very plausible Wilson and had the voice off to a tee.
Not too much New Order was there? Bit of a shame that. Hearing ACR doing 'Flight' less than a week after seeing the real ACR do it put a chill up me spine though and fantastic that they let 'Tart Tart' play, and play, and play. You can forgive the Mondays the entire 90's for that one tune alone.
All round, thought it was a great film but felt you had to have some previous knowledge of the whole genre to 'get' a lot of what was going on. Never really explained Ian's death did they, or even attempted to, and did they at any point actually say who Peter Saville was? He was just some bloke who kept turning up late for everything. Could've done with more cameos of everyone, mind. That would've been interesting. . .
As we said last night the bloke who played Rob Gretton was spot on "30 grand for a fucking table"
I'd forgotton just how good the early Mondays stuff was. I'll have to go and dig out my old 12"s.
And didn't the Hacienda look so much like the real thing?
I must admit if I was New Order I'd be well pissed off with all the lost money.
The characterisations in the film alone make the entrance fee VFM.
As Mickey says, big-up Paddy Considine for his version of Rob Gretton, spot-fooking-on.
Sean Harris has clearly done his homework well on Ian Curtis. Coogan's impression of Wilson is potentially the best work he's done sine Alan Partridge.
Well worth a viewing.
Any of you guys seen the article in the Saturday issue of The Times's glossy supplement magazine? Features a conversation between Steve Coogan and Tony Wilson. Quite interesting read too, and rather witty as the two protagonists try to trip each other up and Coogan's character takes over in places....!!
Great film. I did also leave thinking if people didn't just like, but weren't well into NO they wouldn't get a great deal of it. Me missus for instance, whose a big fan, still didn't get the bit where Steve+Gillian didn't get into the hac 'coz it wouldnt be their scene'
Mmmm, I reckon there might be a few references in there that some might not get, but both my liitle bruv and my mate's little sis both went to see it knowing nowt about Factory/Hacienda/Joy Division etc and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Went to see it last night with 3 friends. This made the total in attendance 8, 2 of these people (over 50's I'd say) left during the suicide scene, perhaps the scary dancing singing chicken was too much for them. The other 2 that were left were a couple of likely lads that appeared to still model themselves on Bez/ SWR and thus thouroughly enjoy the pigeoncide scene.
