Remaster Albums ?

Hello,

I apologize in advance if this subject has been brought up before.

Has there been any news of the albums being remastered? Most of NO's peers (Bunnymen, Banshees, The Cure) have all reissued or in the process of reissuing their catalogs. So far, I've been very impressed with the improvement in sound quality and the extras included with all of these releases.

I especially think Movement is a prime candidate for a reissue. I've always loved this album, but a remastering and even remixing of it would do wonders for it. As for extras, possibly the Western Works demos along with live tracks from the era.

I know the boxset and singles collection contain remastered versions, but these do not have all of the albums tracks.

News? Love the idea? Hate the idea ?

First off, welcome to the forum.

This topic has indeed come up many times lately. For starters, Spotnick has informed us that the Joy Division catalogue has been remastered and will be reissued later this year. As for NO, there are currently no reissue plans that we know of. Given the timing for the Control movie and other factors, I personally would say that we shouldn't expect to see such things until sometime next year, or possibly 2008.

Re-mastering is good, but i don't think anyone should mess with Hannet's mix. some extra's would be nice too, if they kept anything.

PC&L and low life should be re-mastered also, both excellent albums.

I agree that Movement is prime for remastering. That I would probably buy. The other NO albums, I think they're fine as is, and I probably wouldn't be too interested in remasters there.

The New Order albums should be remastered. They sound of course very good but the mastering guys can get so much better results today with yesterday´s sound. Even just making the recording louder and/or cleaning up the master tracks. But of course they need to be careful not to spoil the producer´s touch, like Martin Hannett on Movement.

Movement could include Hannetts original production and a bonus disc of New Orders production.

That is a great idea. Much as I love Movement, Hannett production and all, I would love to hear it restored to what the band originally wanted.

Somehow, though, I doubt that the band would go for the idea. Its hard enough for them to get into the studio and record new material (or even finish the production on the songs that are already done), let alone asking them to rework an album that some of them hate.

Its ultimately down to Warners now,and it seems they`d rather hit us with a best of every couple of years. The bands mentioned above havent had nearly as many compilations.

Excellent idea ! But I don't think the band will bother to remix a 25 year old album which they hate (at least Barney does).

First I've heard of this... Didn't this already happen when Heart and Soul came out? They were darn good remasterings, and included both studio albums and virtually every other Joy Division track every recorded, bar a couple of radio session tracks.

I wouldn't buy the Joy Division albums again. PErfectly happy with the London CD versions I bought a few years back, and Heart and Soul.

Heart and Sould is really all you need to get a "complete" set.

That's what I was thinking when I heard about it. Seems kind of redundant.

It would be better if they'd release some unheard live recordings. The complete "Electric Cicus" or the complete Moonlight 2/4 soundboard tape are bound to exist somewhere. And Hooky surely has some other great stuff in his vaults.

I also had the impression that Rob Gretton had pretty much every NO/JD gig on tape....there were photos of some of the tapes on here a while back. Although the chance of seeing anything from that is very, very slim

Is it true that Hannett was quite deaf? Cos the instruments are so low in the Movement mix!
