Did Gillian sing on all of the Other Two Stuff?
I just saw an OT video on YouTube, it has Steve and Gillian on some sort of fake game show.
The vocals are excellent, very soulful. Is that in fact Gillian singing?

That's probably from NewOrderStory. Available on dvd.
yeah You Can Fly and maybe one other on superhighways (only listened through it a couple of times, TOTAY is by far my favourite album). But you can spot Gillian's astonishing voice a mile a way.
Any number of my mates, upon hearing TOT, have incredulously asked...."So she was in the band all along, and they still let that nobhead sing?"

My thoughts exactly... ![]()

I'm sure Melanie Williams (who sang with Sub Sub) was on the vocals with Gillian on Superhighways.
I presume its Gillian who sings New Horizons? Its a very poppy infectious song and her vocals are pretty damn good.
I think its a pity New Order didnt use her vocals more widely as she could have offered some of the songs something different.
I dont know if its true that Barney is the worse singer in the group or the worse guitarist in the group but I like to provoke a reaction.![]()

I definitely don't think Barney is the worst singer in the group, but I really wish they had let Gillian sing more. I love her voice.
it's a shame that all we ever got to hear was some mubling in the background on movement, and one word repeated over and over and the end of republic.
What New Order song would people have liked to have seen her have a crack at?
Both Other Two albums still get pretty regular play in my house.

She's there on Confusion too![]()
I play both albums a lot too - really like her voice - so the only tracks I'll skip regularly are the ones with MelWilliams singing.
As to her singing NO songs, I'm not sure - the Other Two tracks are a lot different to the NO style, so I don't know what would suit her![]()

You wouldn't have heard me complaining - actually, I don't think her voice would have been at all suitable to O2!
But Kim is still a goddess in my eyes...!!!

Tough to say. Tough for me to picture anyone but Barney singing the NO tunes I know and love. I think she could have done nicely on Bizarre Love Triangle, though.
Of course, they could have had her sing where a female voice was used anyway. For instance, why on earth have Ana Matronic sing on Jetstream when you have a perfectly good voice right within your own group?? ![]()

Don't forget her vocals on Procession.
I've always enjoyed Gillian's voice - I was so gungho on the O2 stuff because I got to hear lovely pop from a relatively innocent sounding voice. It's a sweet voice, not filled with diva-highs or gravelly sounds.
I think I would have liked to have heard a few more vocals on songs done by everyone in the group, really. Each has their own merits to singing that I enjoy. Yes, even fair Steve. ![]()
Never thought that Scissor Sister chick should have been pulled in for the 'Stream. Should have been Gillian if she'd been able to do it. Ah well. No sense whining. ![]()
She's on a good many of the tracks on O2's first album (The Other Two And You) although she seemed not to be confident. Tasty Fish and Selfish - the singles from it - have some excellent vocals on them.
Super Highways is a good deal more confident and Mel Williams does a cracking job on You Can Fly but Gillian's vocals are strong on songs like New Horizons which was also the theme tune to Common As Muck. I still listen to SH a good deal as it's a superb work overall. It's sad to think that they were dropped before the album was released, hence why it was not really promoted.
Her input on Procession and Avalanche are cool!
I personally wish she was on more songs as backing vocals; especially if her voice could replace all the other female backing voices on recent albums which usually ruin the songs for me.
Procession, Doubts Even Here and Avalanche...so that's it?
I like her voice too. She has a simple and melodic style that I prefer to the overblown Christinas and Mariahs anyday.
New Order trivia: what is Gillian reading in the background of 'Doubts Even Here'?
Psalms 77.
i've always thought the other two sounded a bit like bananarama. and i've got nothing against bananarama, mind. nice voices the lot of them.
