I just bought it a few days ago... its a bit strange to say the least. ![]()
Cornershop - a good band.
Fatboy fucking Slim all but helped sabotage their career.
(ask Tjinder Singh what HE thinks then if you don't believe me....)
Very difficult to describe another band like Cornershop. Sort of disco music played on guitars and sitars.
But the albums a gem hidden amongst the shite self wallowing indie and dire half baked dance doing the chart rounds at the moment
Sebsy - did you have to mention this lot? Every time I hear the name it reminds me of THAT fookin song - and it's guaranteed to stick in me head till I go to bed now - you bastard![]()
Is it as good as 'When I was born...' ? I love that album
but I read somewhere that on the new album there is a 12-minute song with some guy named 'Noel Gallagher' playing guitar.....? I don't know, I guess I should give it a try anyway...
That's just the problem with Noel Gallagher - every time!
I reckon he only guested on the Cornershop album because it meant that he could further his frankly increasingly pathetic and tedious obsession with "indian instruments" to satisfy his tokenistically dire Beatle-esque cravings. Absolutely no disrespect to Cornershop whatsoever, but I believe Gallagher is one of those sad leeches that would happily drop in on ANY recording session if the word "Sitar" was mentioned.
So what have we here? 12 minute-plus droning groove which (from the many reviews I've read of this otherwise fine record) happens to be the album's weakest track. Simply because Noel plays on it, thus lending his medusa touch to the proceedings, the stupid one-trick monobrowed cum-clot!! ![]()
Whatever next? Galla-Noe-los to shack up with fooking Slipknot when they go all Eastern-ethnic-metal on their fifth album? King Thunderbird to be the special guest of honour at the next Sitar-workshop for underage alcoholic rehab drop-outs in Middleton Civic Centre??
Do us a favour Noely. Write some songs for Gareth Gates and Will Young. And then... :finger:
I know what you mean about Noel mate, but I actually quite like that song on there - the guitar isnt too obvious. Allegedly he's good mates with Cornershop after they supported Oasis a few years ago. That could be bollox mind you.
Haven't seen the album over here yet; it was probably sold out in the import shops in Portland. Did pick up the interestingly titled 45 Lessons Learned From Rocky I To Rocky III. Sounds like a good teaser for the rest of the album.
Great album indeed.
As for Xmas Gallag (french joke), when Cornershop toured with them, he used to joined them for the usual show closer, the always very long "Jullandar Shere" or something like that. I think they even did a 40 minutes version once.
Anyway, I don't care for the Xmas lad, really, but I like the song he's on on the new album.
