(The Best Of) New Order - Versions & Artwork

I just decided to create folders for all of NO's releases in my New Order music folder (including all of the compilations, etc) and am unable to come to a consensus as to which album cover matches its UK or US counterpart, in terms of the "Best Of" releases.

As I understand it, the UK version was released in 1994, and then the US version was released in 1995 with a different track listing. Is the UK album cover the one with the purple squiggly shape on it, and the US version with the dark blue one? Or is it the light blue one for the US? Or, do I have them all muddled up?

Any help would be appreciated.

Blue squiggle (? mark?) was Best Of and pinkie purply one was Rest Of.

Yes, the pink one is definitely the "Rest Of", but then there is a purple one, and two different shades of blue for the "Best Of" releases. I'm trying to work out which is which. Different websites seem to supply differing information.

Nevermind, think I worked it out -

US version is dark blue, UK (International) version is the lighter blue.

You've got them the wrong way round...

UK Best Of = dark blue

US Best Of = light blue

Why do I have a purple ? on my Canadian Best of? Same track listing as the UK

lists the dark blue version as:

So, I assumed the dark blue cover was the US version...

Yes I'm positive - the colours on that page don't look terribly representative. The UK one is definitely the dark blue (same as the one listed on that page as the German version) and the US is pale blue.

Canadian one is purple, and the Japanese one is daker purple. Confusing, innit!

Pardon the double-post, but I might as well address a few other things as well, while we're on this topic:

• How come the cover art of "Movement" sometimes lists it as FACT. 50, but it says FACD. 50 on others? (Such as the copy I own?)

• What's the deal with the cover art of "Brotherhood"? The copy I own features more of a 'cropped' version of the artwork (as I've listed in that image I posted), rather than the larger, more extensive cover art that is abundant on a variety of websites.

• Finally, and I know it doesn't really pertain to the topic at hand, but: am I missing out on much with the bonus track that's available on the US pressing of Sirens' Call? I refuse to listen music unless I physically own the disc itself, and I haven't, as yet, been bothered to purchase an imported version of the disc just for one remix.

The bonus track is Barney singing Krafty in Japanese. It's alright.

T = Tape and D = Disk I believe

Not quite. FACD50 was the CD release as you say, but FACT50 was the vinyl. The tape was FACT50c...

The Mac Quayle mix is alright, I guess. I never listen to it. You can get a legal copy through iTunes, you don't have to buy the album again.

As for the 'purple' Best of...I think it's dark blue.

What about the "Brotherhood" artwork? Could the more extensive artwork be the vinyl version, and it's simply been cropped for the CD jewelcase?

the more cropped version is the metallic sleeve (cf the ltd release fac150sp) - a sopecial finish

the complete sleeve (compare to the standard lp release fac150) is on the normal, standard edition.

afaik the metallic sleeve on the cd is the one that came with the car carry case version

No, that's on the Japanese version.

the us version on qwest has white writing with the band & album name on it & the full sleeve the uk has 2 versions - the limited metallic sleeve referred to above & the one you get now

one thing i've wondered about this is why bother to put all the compilations on? sure the us one has let's go on it, but the uk one? substance does the job far better of the non album singles

are all these different blue colors of 'Best of' blue question marks intentional, or just sloppyness from dofferent record companies?

After doing some eBay searches and looking at physical copies of the Best Ofs, I'm confident that the UK version is the more darker purple color, and the US release light blue to differentiate between the two. Any other variations in shade is an import release (i.e. German or Canadian, Japanese, etc).

fair enough to buy the cds, but it's hardly completism to have them all on a pc is it? they aren't physical items, just files.
