I was listening to Substance today and thought of a question.
Is there any particular reason the band rerecorded Temptation and Confusion? Were they not happy with the original single versions? Is it because the songs had changed some live during the time between their original releases and Substance?

They updated them to reflect the way they'd been playing them live. Obviously with Temptation they only got halfway there.
Yeah, perhaps Bernard should've mangled the chords like he did at Glastonbury 87. How legendary is that performance in terms of Bernard's level of intoxication? I've heard it's high up there.

they rerecorded more than those two, like subculture. i wish they would've UNrecorded thieves like us and SOTN, though!
I don't know why they re-recorded it, but I like most of the re-recordings. (Although, I don't really like "Subculture" on "Substance"...the "Low-Life" version was much better in my opinion.)

Was he drunk then? I wish there was some footage of this gig. The BBC cd that came out is quite possibly the worse live CD anyone has put out (ever). A live CD is suppose to showcase how great a band sound live. But Im sorry to say that in this case it shows how horrible a band can sound and come across.
Its a pity as I had this idea for a couple of years that New Order were absolute pony live. But since 1993 Ive seen and heard that they can also be absolutely blinding.

I thought the exact same thing after buying a few live recordings in the early 90's. These days I'm just glad to see them and I have a brilliant time regardless.
