Joy Division Substance 1987 question

Could somebody please tell me which songs were re-recorded for this compliation? I know "Shes Lost Control" sounds like a completely new version, with better drums, guitar and an added keyboards section. Did any other songs have new tracks laid down?

NO also redid Confusion and Temptation for NO Substance as well as knocking out True Faith, 1963 and TBTHOG. So a very productive 1987 I feel.

I would like to see an updated/improved production of Brotherhood, as I think there are some decent songs buried in there that just need a bit of tinkering to bring them to life. This is the only album I would be hapy with being meddled with.

Pretty sure none of the tracks on Joy Division's Substance were re-recorded in 1987. She's Lost Control on Substance was the 12" version recorded in 1980 (used as the B-side to the Atmosphere 12" in the UK). Besides which I guess it would have been hard for Ian to have made it to a recording session in 1987 !?!

On the Brotherhood front I agree but I think Low-Life is in more desperate need of remastering as it sounds awful on CD.

This "new" version of She's Lost Control on Substance was actually released in September 1980 as a 12" single.

The Substance version of She's Lost Control is a different mix from the FACUS 2 version...

The 12" version of SLC on 24 Hour Party People is also of a different mix.

i think you will find that lwtua was definately tinkered with,there is added guitar and the vocal seems to have been lifted in some way too.

Re-recording is often tricky with a singer who's been a decomposing compser for 7 feckin years. DOH! reMIXing maybe, reMASTERING certainly, but re-recording? no. (half the kit you can hear on that version of SLC shuffled off it's mortal nearly as long ago as Ian and all)

You're thinking of the 1995 Radio/Permanent version.

The 1988 Joy Division Substance release used the original A-side version.

Obviously I didnt mean the vocals were re-recorded. I also read somewhere that Barney and Hooky did some re-recordings for the compliation. So the 1980 12" version of Shes Lost Control has the keyboards and flanged effect guitar riff?

If NO re-recorded elements on tracks on Substance then surely its pausible they did like wise for the JD Substance?

I think some guitars and maybe some bass were added to some songs on Still, it was 'the kill' and something else, maybe 'something must break' or 'only mistake'. But I've never heard of anything like that being done with the tracks on substance
