I'm a newcomer to this board and it seems like most of you are British/other European. This means you get to go see every NO gig because it's no big deal for you to zoom through the Chunnel and go to gigs in Paris and crap like that. This is unfair. When NO came to America they only went to freaking Los Angeles which might as well be Nairobi as far as I'm concerned.

And the worst thing is, you guys flaunt it SHAMELESSLY. "Where are we going to dinner after the show? Where are your seats?" ARRRRRRRRGH! Meanwhile, us East Coast Americans get to watch Taras Schevenko or whatever for the bazillionth time.

Unfair! Unfair, I tell you, unfair!

Keep yer hair on mate! I'm a Briton but I've never ever seen New Order live since 1986 so you're not the only one....!

You ain't missed much anyway cos i believe they've always been shit live anyway - playing the same set every single gig this last tour seems to just about sum up my fears.....

when you have no money for train fare and the only chance you've ever had of being close to seeing new order is when they played london, manchester and glasgow when you live in birmingham, you also get a tad pissed off. and also none of my friends is willing to go and see them with me because they all like metal and think new order is shitty clubby bopping music. ok i'll stop before this turns into a very long rant! :violent2:

You know what pisses me off?? wait, oh forgot... No that's what pisses me off! Marty, my friend, i've only once in my life seen a live-performance topping a New Order one: Marco van Basten!! (sorry, offtopic)

OK, OYTB, what do you think we could do to lure the lads across the pond?

The baseball stadium in Cleveland has a new delight this year (or so I'm told): a chicken breast baked into a waffle and served with maple syrup and hot sauce. (Judging from the Australia concert pics, I think these would go over well.)

Plus, my hometown summer festival has started offering, along with the traditional fried dough, deep-fried candy bars.

Our beer sucks, though, but it is served cold. And we have big-ass hotel rooms with air conditioning.

Whaddaya say, lads? A summer tour of the East Coast?

It is frustrating not being able to see your fav band on the planet live on a pretty regular basisbut its not the European contingents fault that they get to see all of these shows ... Good on them for following the Order around and seeing all those shows ... I just sit back in awe when I read about all their plans and adventures ...

Um, please come back to Australia soon New Order !!! Barney, you can go sailing in our harbor again (Sydney)..

agreed...but them coming to canada is nearly zip...can anyone remember when any of the members came to toronto for anything lately? let alone new order...all i can remember is electronic promoting their record in canada in 1996. i had a fight with my sister(who was a NO/electronic fan) and purposely did not tell her that bernard sumner was on tv...

What kind of tennis balls excite you so, anyway? I always found that Wilson had the more superior hardcourt bounce, yet nothing could surpass the old Slazengers in their pressurised can for grass court reliability and performance.

I'm sure Old Blue would agree with me- he seems like the type to enjoy cracking a few slice backhands before retiring for tea.

Harking back to the Order, I'm of the belief that if they hit your shores- no matter how bloody wide apart they may be (eg US, AU) you've gotta seize the day. Given the age of the band and the likelihood of future tours, if they touchdown, you gotta haul ass there. I did it recently here and it was the best several hundred bucks I ever spent.

Apart from mocking up my TV room to create an exact replica of the Millenium Falcon cockpit, but that's another story.

I think Depth Charge has hit the nail on the head..

They ain't gonna be round for another 20 years. Maybe not even 20 months together, knowing how tempermental they are with each other.

Seize the day.

   Totally agree me ole muckerado;) Just the smell of a freshly laid Slazenger - gets ME all excited, I remember the days - when we couldn't afford to pay for a court - so we'd sneak up to the local school - kidnap a couple of police cones, and tie a bit of string to either end to make our net. Nothing beat hitting the Slazenger powerfully through the air (bouncing just inside the line - past the hapless Malky), with me John McEnroe Donnay wooden racket - gosh, crikey - they were the days;)

Nah, you should've opted for Slave 1 instead - although attaching the seat to the wall is a big ask, you could still insist on people caling you Bobba. CTB

Harrumph! my current stash is only Dunlop, I'm well envious, one of them has spent the winter in the neighbours passage way as well. Last rays of summer mid October I was practising in the back garden, it took a weird ricochet of a teracotta plant pot and leapfrogged their leylandii and I'm still waiting for them to throw it back.

What's your favourite brand of golf ball? I'm a bit out of touch with all these new fangled nike ones or whatever they use these days. When I was a lad, finding a Pinnacle or a titleist in the rough was akin to copping a feel of a fit bird's tits, but a Wilson ultra was as good as a b.j....just the right amount of dimples and a superb dimple pattern.

That reminds me of a particularly serendipitous find, a ping ball that was one half bright [orange]orange[/orange] the other lime green with no smiles in it. a ball like that was well worth letting someone play through, while you spent half an hour in the rough trying to find it.

***Nick*** why no orange??????

Hmmm, you and I should really sit down and discuss this hopelessly inaccurate mental image you have of me....

As it goes, I'm rubbish at any sport that requires holding additional equipment. However, if NewOrderOnline FC ever get formed, you can pencil me in as goalkeeper.

Isn't Birmingham a large and populated city?

How come New Order doesn't play there?

I know the PSBs does, and I think Depeche usually do as well.

A very good question. They always used to play Birmingham - I've seen them there in 82, 83, 84, 85, 86 and 89, but they haven't been back for a long while. There's suitable venues (indeed the Tower Ballroom (83,85&86) was often said to be their favourite venue in the old days), so I don;t really know why.

i don't think the tower ballroom exists anymore. we do have the academy. they should have played there. bastards.

and yes, birmingham is a large and populated city - britain's second city infact. so why shitty glasgow and manchester????!!!!

to be fair birmingham's pretty shitty too.

Nice story, Smartbutt.

I've found such dayglo balls have their drawbacks, however. I recall an incident where I cracked a truly magnificent 3 iron straight down the guts of the second fairway at the South Perth Country club, only to witness a truly brazen black crow swoop from the heavens, pluck the thing from the air in it's beak and hightail it into the trees. Outrageous! I've always put it down to the flouro pink colouring of the ball which may have made it more appealing to the avarian hunter.

And to think it wasn't even a birdie attempt.

Candy the Bear (whatever next?), we all know what happened to Fett- he ended up as late lunch for the Saarlac Monster. Solo, now he was the likeable rogue who ended up with the totty, the military decorations, the kickass ride and the Wookie. No comparison.

Oh no, a glaring error.

It was the topspin backhand that was the talk of Portsmouth Tennis & Croquet Club, wasn't it? What a duffer.

Back in ONTOPIC land, erm, I think there's a fairly good reason they play 'shitty' Manchester?

Interested to hear of old Tennis Balls' response to all of this advice he's been getting in this thread..

The NEC gig will always be memorable to me for "different" reasons.....

a) we got completely shit-faced on the way to the gig and were in a state of disorientation before the Mondays came on, but

b) I was wearing this studded belt in my jeans, and the bastards on the door wouldn't let me wear it. Jeans kept falling down, so I was down the front with me thumbs through the loops trying to keep me jeans up ! Sometimes you need yer arms down the front for support and lebensraum, so I got battered to fuck every time people started moving about (every 5 seconds). Somehow didn't really enjoy the gig :)

The Tower Ballroom doesn't exist anymore ?????

Oh yes it does !!!! It's on Reservoir Road Edgbaston, on the shores of Edgbaston Reservoir. Also accessible from Icknield Port Road I think. Not the sort of place your average band plays, as it isn't really a gig venue. Lots of nice fake plastic palm trees :)

NEC 89 - was my first concert - thought it was fookin brilliant meself:nod: Amazed when they played 1963 - and I'll always remember Hooky sitting on an amp for a couple of songs:lol: luckily for me - we were in the seats up high - but next to the stage...I woulda been squashed up to fuck had I been in the crowd, memory's are hazy concerning the Mondays - just remeber them all having beers in their hand, and Shaun Ryder with a rather long cigarette;) Loadsa stuff from technickers - mixed with a few favourites - I certainly had a great night:nod:

ZZ I'm concerned as to how you know the tower ballroom still exists. When I was at school it was known to be the place for all the obliging sorts of girlies/ more mature ladies to go and I'm guessing this is still the case (and I feel I must say now I HAVE NOT EVER BEEN!) ah perhaps that would explain your knowledge... , gone are the days of holding gigs there though.

I looked on a "What's happening in Brum" website to check if it still existed......why would I travel all the way to Brum to pay for a JoeMac when Worcester's full of obligees ? :)
