I'd have to go for "Lonesome Tonight", simply on of my favorites NO songs. Incredible this was just a b-side... But then again, so was "1963" when it first came out.

I don't know just how obscure this is...or if it even counts...but there was a track called the perfect pit (if I'm not mistaken) on the back of my the perfect kiss 12" single (US version) that I was quite taken in by...pretty much just the drum line...but damn I would love to get my hands on that again!!

Don't do it!!! One of the best kept "secrets" of NO.
It's not really obscure but In A Lonely Place still, to this day, brings a lump to my throat.

interesting.. for years we thought of the 22 mins of Elegia (which is exclusively available on this site) as the "New Order Mytical thing) (there is a spelling error there I'm sure)
As for the hidden gem, well, it seems people qualifies B-Sides in that category, but I do think the gems are in the side-projects.. for example, take the following songs:
- Vivid
- Twisted Tenderness
- Get The Message
- Getting Away With It
- Freefall
- Happy Jack
- It's a Boy
- Kashmere
- Shine
- What Do You Want From Me?
- The River
- Super Highways
- Selfish
- Tasty Fish
Re-record them as NEW ORDER and you'll have the best New Order album you can find on the market :)
We all know that, of course side-projects album were weaker than the New Order albums (even though I love them all!), but a best of compilation done by New Order would have had a lot of impact, and more people than just the fan base would have known those beautiful songs.
Just my 2 cents :D Take it for what it's worth.
(I do think Twisted Tenderness and Kashmere are really good tracks that never got a chance to be remixed and released)

i would love to have peter hook play his bass on top of the first electronic album. i love it but when i hear it now i feel like it lacks the bass. it would be nice to hear some of the songs you listed in the live set.
I know it's a cover but "Turn the Heater On" from the first Peel Session they did back in 1982. Lot's of mouth accordian on this one for you mouth accordian fans.

I can't remember where I found an instrumental remix of 'Vanishing Point' on the net, probably the b-side of one of Technique singles and/or remixes. I *really* loved this version, does anyone know where it is available/hearable ??
Has anybody ever heard 'LoveDance'? - me and my mate found it in a record fare - it was a nicked bootleg of a studio recording that was never released. A full, proper song around 1985 that was dead dancey with Barney's harmonica/lasiryn thing going full pelt and Hooky magic throughout.
This is definately a proper hidden gem. I urge you to seek it out - its also a great song. Imagine it, a classic NO song that was never released, or heard!?

Agree with most of the above - Don't Do It and Lonesome Tonight are classics in their own right. Had a 7" singles jukebox in the bar way, way back when I was at University and we used to put DDI on repeatedly, over and over and over gain. Kids, eh?
Bollocks Jarvo... its New Order - I'm not a complete cunt. The tape has New Order all over it, the singer IS Barney, the drum programming and song content is the Order all of the way through it.
Huntsman, trust me, it's *not* the Order. Can't remember the name of the group but perhaps someone else can help out?!

Ive just remembered that I had a really old Acid Trax album around 88 or 89 and it had a track called Perfectly Ordinary People. The rumour at the time was that it was Bernard and Neil Tennant fucking around. Dont really remember the track that much except for a high voice repeating "Perfectly Ordinary People" over and over. It had a bit of a Fine Time feel to it but then maybe that`s where the rumour came from.
