Just spotted this on the NME website

It looks like "The TUBE" is coming back but as a radio show, with T Wilson presenting, and live performances by (amongst others) New Order. It kicks of on 3rd of November, and will be available as a podcast from the 4radio website.

How many times did NewOrder perform on The Tube? I remeember them playing State Of The Nation but cant remember if they played before.
I think they played in 1983 on SWITCH as well - the music show that featured more indie stuff and which filled in for the Tube for the first two years during the latter's "off-air" breaks. I do remember "Age Of Consent" being one of those songs, even though I was pretty young and still in secondary school in the I.O.M. back then.

I've got State of the Nation and Broken Promise on the Tube in early 1987 (it says), on a bootleg. Not the most sparkling of performances.

I think this was the radio show Hooky told me that 'Freebass' done the theme music for 
Their appearance on the Tube was awful. Was living in Newcastle at the time and blagged entry after talking to Fluff Freeman in the bar next door! The things you have to do to see NO.
The Switch appearance was Age of Consent followed by a very sinister version of Blue Monday - excellent.
Bill - where does the Unknown Pleasure latex image come from? Not seen that before. Looks brilliant!
Always wanted to know if they actually played more songs than the two that were broadcast at the Tube in 86 - there were rumours for years that they'd done a few more but no recording ever surfaced.

It is an alternate version of the artwork i did for Saville's book. There will be an edition of prints of it released later in the year, and i'll make sure i let people know, on NOOL first when they are.
The report says that the recording was on Sunday. Did anyone go?

I always thought that the Tube performance in wearly 86 was one of their best TV spots. A great version of State of the Nation and a sadly cut short and very fast n thrashy Broken Promise
I'm not going to quote from anyone,I'm just going to state that N.O.'s performance on The Tube in March '86 was absolute fucking quality N.O.,all effortless cool & attitude,a fantastic rendition of two songs showing both ends of their spectrum,a sequencer driven euro-disco,ice-cold classic,followed by a bass-heavy,thrash thru' of Broken Promise,Hooky being magnificent.Sometimes when I read these posts,I wonder what the best & coolest band on the planet have to do to please some people,there's as much fucking slagging off as praise sometimes,it puzzles me,allowing for opinions & all

I just watched it again, and its not good IMHO.. Broken Promise is really out of tune, and SoTN is well, SotN..
Liking the coolest band in the world does not necessarily mean we have to heap 100% praise on them for everything they do. Take this month; I've seen two live performances at opposite ends of the spectrum at B'mouth and Wembley. If we lose the ability to be occasionally critical, then we lose our grip on reality.

Yes,of course,you're right,our opinions are one of the things that make us individuals.In the past,Ive been critical myself,I think 'Rest of...' is the biggest pile of shite N.O. have ever put their name to for instance,but sometimes when I read a particular post,it makes me wonder that not to like certain things,ie. The Tube performance,is not to like N.O. at all.Fuck that it's not a particular song you don't like or maybe it's out of tune,it's NEW ORDER,& those are the things that make them so.Also,TV performances were few & far between,so it's N.O. gold.Only IMHO of course:\ohwell:

OK... I just watched it again, and its still not good. Perhaps its the yellow turtleneck. Perhaps.. the biggest problem is the VHS bootleg tape I have is the Tube 'performance', followed by the Old Grey Whistle Test performance at the Hacienda, 1985(?).. Its chalk and cheese, and if some bugger could put that OGWT clip on You Tube one day, i reckon I'd watch it once a day, just to watch Barney trash a guitar and play the replacement like he's playing for his life on Sunrise.
