twisted tenderness.

i'm sorry n.o. fans, but i think the last electronic album is a lot better than getready. at least that's my opinion. don't be afraid to voice your opinion if you don't think the new n.o. cd is all that. i sat down and listened to it all the way thru last night and i just couldn't connect with any of the new stuff. as far as i'm concerned, when it comes to listening to new material there's stuff that you can connect to right away and then there's stuff that you don't like right away, but then it grows on you and then you like it. then there is material out there that will never grow on you no matter how much you listen to it. in this case, it's getready for me. i've been a longtime new order fan and will always be, but this new cd just isn't for me.

You say that the new album isn't for you, yet stress that new material takes time to grow. Perhaps you should give it some time, you can't have had the new album for more than a day? Compressed MP3s don't count!

I'm actually in shock listening to this new NO album. I'm incredibly critical of most things and was prepared for the worst when I heard that the new album was due. I fell in love with it straight away. IMO it rivals anything they've done before and is giving my all time favourite album, Electronic by Electronic, a serious run for its money.

Twisted Tenderness was OK. Some really great tracks, unfortunately there's some real duffers on there. Only a couple have the depth and creativity of the material on Get Ready.

It's only been out for 2 days.Give it time.

Keep listening to it, in 2 weeks, you will love it.

I am sorry my friend I have to disagree with you on this one! I am a big Electronic fan but I don't think that Twisted Tenderness is better than Get Ready. I have been listening to TT for about 2 years now, and really do enjoy it, but I even think that Electronic and Raise the Pressure are better than it.

TT is more of a rock side of Electronic, I think it has a lot to do with Oasis, as they are good friends of Johnny Marr. Get Ready, in the last 2 months I have been listening to it, is far better than TT.

I also think you should give it more time and really listen to it. Hooky has a lot to do with the difference in sound of NewOrder and Electronic and it is that bass that makes Get Ready even that much better than TT.

So, listen to the album for a couple of weeks and then let us know if you change your mind, I think you will :)

I've tried sampling Hooky's bass during quiet bits on various N.O tracks ,best is the intro to Monaco's "What do you want fom me?" but to no great sucess.He could make a fortune if he brought out a sample cd.

allen's right on this one. hooky's bass on Electronic's first album would make that album as good as Technique. get johnny on tour and forget the bald bandito. if marr joined the group we wouldn't need Electronic albums anymore and deciding if TT is better than GR would be a problem of the past. if johnny can tour with the Pretenders, The The etc...why not New Order? imagine JM playing the lead guitar on All Day Long before the strings start about 2 and a half minutes in...

Maybe I should listen back to TT... But, when I heard it at the time, I thought it was just vain tetosterone, with no emotion.

RTP, on the other hand as a lot of great songs, chorus to "Time Will Tell" is really great, even if, of course, the 1st album is by far the best one.

Well, I do enjoy RTP as well, but well, that's my opinion :) Just like when the other day I listened to Republic.. I'm used now with "mp3 thinking" to pick tracks and put them in a directory and listen to them.. well, I've listened to the full album for the first time in years, and I found that it was quite good...

Anyways, a "best of" Electronic beats a lot of other records for me.. after all, since Bernard's the voice of New Order, it feels like it's New Order.. put some bass on there and you mostly got it... (well, replacing Stephen by a beat box is not necessary good either, but..)

I agree that a best of record of Electronic would be wonderful, well with Hooky's bass of course. The first 2 Electronic albums sound a lot like NewOrder and to release the best ones on 1 CD would be a very good buy. Possibly some new re-mixes (uh not "Crystal" re-mixes :p) would be great too...

RTP is the weakest record by Electronic- TT is far better, and appears to have pointed the way towards Get Ready, and the return to a more rocky NO sound. I think Get Ready has the edge though.

g05 - I've just entered this thread and in all seriousness have you ever considered driving your car off the side of a mountain?

I think the contribution Stephens drumming makes to the songs is way underestimated-the patterns on Primitive Notion,Close Range etc are exceptional. NO is not just Hookys Bass and Barneys voice.

Seb, I could not agree with you more! Stephen's drumming is some of the best you'll hear by any modern day drummer. He has his own unique style and has so much energy. Listen to the Peel session of Transmission and weep. I just hope they play it live when we mosey on down to Brixton.

You really think that TT is better than RTP? I guess you like the more rock side of NewOrder than. I think that RTP has some wonderful songs on it and so does TT. To me RTP sounds more like NewOrder.... and with Hooky's bass would top it off...

Like I said before, TT is more "Oasis" and I am not a big fan of them.... they have a few good song, but overall nah....

I'm with you on Oasis, April. I do not like their music really. As for TT - I prefer its raw sound and I think a track like Prodigal Son stands up to anything Electronic have ever done (and to NO greats as well). I feel RTP is rather bland with no stand out tracks. It seems to be too polished. Forbidden City is as good as it gets. Sorry!
