Brutal

Ok, I know I am going to get bashed for this but I like Brutal. I think it would do good on the album because the album contains many different sounds. This is a good guitar song. I was very excited to say the least to hear NewOrder was releasing another song, and I wasn't disappointed.

This is a good track and I don't think it would do bad on this album. Honestly I don't think it would have gotten such bad reviews if it were on the album. It was just everyone was expecting something different and I guess felt a little disappointed on the result. They waited so long for a new song and it wasn't what they expected.

I do like Brutal, but I think its place is not on the album : nono: because it souds very different due to the production. I'd like to hear a new version produced by Steve Osborne . This would certainly fit on Get Ready .

Yep,Brutal is a great track.All the usual elements are there.As stated by Ben,Steve Osborne is the man to do a better mix on this.

I haven't listened to Brutal in a while, but my recollection is that it didn't give me a warm glow.

A good barometer for how good or bad Brutal was is me. I never bought it and never bothered to find it on some obscure website. At the point it was released I think I was listening to Twisted Tendershite and thought, fuck it, where is the old New Order?

I might try and buy it now though.

Very interested to here that it was recorded at the same time as Crystal. Some time ago that isn't it. I would have thought all the Get Ready shit would've been written within a year.

Yeah I liked it, and still do. Putting it on GR instead of Slow Jam would have been the right thing to do. It was never going to be a single and therefore NO probably 'donated' The Beach (what a shit film by the way) soundtrack one of their weaker songs, and kept Crystal and 60MPH for themselves

I like Brutal, in fact I burned a copy of Get Ready with the CD single and the live tracks from Crystal ala Japan release & included Brutal. You've got to remember this however, Brutal was recorded for the Beach, it wasn't a track they just wrote for the hell of it. They intentionally gave it that sound and lyrics for the movie.

I Think the lyrics, and possibly tune, were probably modified for the soundtrack rather than written intentionally for it. I doubt it would have been greatly different if it was just on GR. The track itself isn't that prominent in the film

BRUTAL sounds half finished compared to the sond of GET READY if i can remember right, ROLLO was anounced as the new producer for the next album! maybe they realized after a few songd it wasn´t working? and so they decided for a new and harder direction? BARNEY said in an interview, CRYSTAL was a house songg first!!!! would be interesting to hear early demo versions

I don't mind Brutal. I think it would fit nicely on GR. The sound is in between crystal and 60mph and that's where I'd put it on the album.

Well Nic, i've made up a version of Get Ready with Brutal between 60MPH and Turn My Way, I think that's where it fits best on the album. I do like the track a lot too.

I think Brutal is one of the worst NO songs. I remember being so disappointed when I first heard it. Perhaps I need to give it a 2nd chance but I can't help feeling its got a touch of the 'Guilty Partner's about it.

Brutal should've been a single, that way I wouldn't have to buy the Beach soundtrack in order to hear it on a regular basis. Don't think it'd fit in much with Get Ready, though I skip over Close Range every time I listen to it, so perhaps Brutal would've been better in that slot.

You know what? I/ve NEVER heard "Brutal" yet - even when it came out with the soundtrack to "The Beach" a year or so back. I wasn't that gullible as to rush out and buy the bleedin soundtrack just to hear one song anyway. Why the frig didn't New Order at least bring it out as a stand-alone single (albeit "as featured on the soundtrack"?). At least that would have helped some way towards plugging the gap between the last compilation and the current LP. I think that was a classic case of a wasted opportunity. Do any others agree with me?

I may have got my chronology a bit mixed up here, but didn't Rob Gretton die at around the time Brutal was recorded. I seem to remember that the band had just got back together having made friends again. They had just started writing again and then had the rug pulled from under them.

I was quite disappointed with Brutal when it came out...I didn't even bothered to buy that soundtrack... Now I've got it through some bargain bin ( found amongst Jeff Lyne & Phil Collins CDs )...and after a few listening, Brutal is 'swallow-able'...Maybe it should replace that Slow Jam song...f-king hate it!!!

I'm afraid that GP was my least favourite track from Techophobe - somehow it doesn't sound 'right' when cpmpared to other rockier tracks such as Sunrise, Broken Promise and Weirdo etc

I like Brutal, but it shouldn't be on the Get Ready album
