As New Orders' excesses have been well documented I wonder if they ever played a gig consisting entirely of instrumental versions of their songs? (maybe due to Barney not feeling up to the task).

I know they played Shellshock as an instrumental, I dont know why or what reaction it caused from the crowd.

They've never done Shellshock as a full instrumental. Bernard couldn't help making up some random words in places.

They've also never done a full instrumental gig, they've never actually played more than one instrumental in a night (we don't know about the Red Parrot at Perth in 1987 as we only have the last 4 tracks, one of which was Elegia, they may have played Let's Go in the set as well).

The Heaven gig in 1981 had a JD instrumental soundcheck, that's as near as they've got.

Correct about Shellshock.

Warrington Spectrum Arena, 1986, the second time they ever played it, they came on for an encore and Barney said:

"This is Shellshock....instrumental version"

But then sang lyrics.

I was there......

Warrington was the first time they'd played it in front of an audience, it had featured in the soundcheck the night before but never been in the set.

They did play the instumental version of Let's Go in Rotterdam 1985. Only one I can think of off the top of my head

Hardly a full set of instrumentals though!

They played Let's Go a lot between 85 and 87, always an instrumental. They also played Elegia about every 4th gig between 85 and 87 as well.

I've good a good copy of an instrumental shellshock from the Bradford soundcheck - sounds very err... electronic.

Yes, that was the night before Warrington, that I referred to above. It sort of ran itself!

I stand corrected re Shellshock.

Wierdly enough, I remember clearly when they announced "Shellshock" that some fans already seemed to know it.

Must have been mates of the band or something.

A mate and I spent the whole gig shouting "Sunrise" and waving our posters. We were so naive we bought posters onthe way in, not out. You can hear us clearly on the bootleg.
