Ah yes, we'd all like to think that if we just refused to acknowledge the whole Spice Girls phenomenon, it would just disappear. But then there are all those naked dolls and videocassette boxes to explain.

What, the breast implants?
Hi V.G.!!
good ta see you back!
I don't need to add anymore here save to say that on my own thread about the NME a few other onliners and myself have done a pretty thorough demolition job whilst discussing their complete and utter inaneness of recent years. Have you noticed how much their new format looks like your own HOT PRESS music pub now? That's cos they're actually related!!!

The only way now.....is DOWN!!! Sorry Yazz. (you spazz)
A lampooning cameo on South Park surely beckons one day soon.... slurp slurp....
Here's hoping you will pop in here more often - as a lot of the reggies (including me) have returned to the fold.... :)

Dead right too ...most of it from one writer too -

Originally posted by snucker i'm not british, but my personal take on these stupid lists is that they mean squat! it's kinda silly knocking off someone's stupid idea of what's great, cuz in the end, their opinion really doesn't matter unless they have the authority and the credibility to make that judgement. otherwise, it's just a popularity contest that name drops some credible and somewhat obscure names to sound credible. p.s. how come the majority of this list has british bands? did they forget the rest of the world?
i think this fine post says it all for me
Well it seems the NME only serve one function nowadays......peddling shite by the truckload.
Just glance at that list and see how many tokenistic gestures they've slung in there just for good measure!
As if to reassure us they're not ALL the elitist hip-indie-rock name-touting sycophants we'd always suspected them of being....
Let's see ..... Token white male rapper who's incidentally massive and topically controversial: Eminem - check!
Token US white female solo artist: well it could only be Madonna - check!
Token UK white female solo artist: well let's see, who last won the Mercury Music Prize? Let's give it to Polly Jean Harvey then - check!
Token poncey New Romantic outfit fronted by flamboyant egg who happened to achieve some cheap credibility thru the NME's eyes cos he was also a smackhead. Oh, it has to be Boy George and Culture Club - check!
Token evergreen crooner just to show that - hey kids, we don't forget the old forefathers too y'know? So who better than Ole Blue Eyes himself? - check!
It's doubly dubious when you consider just exactly how influential were Sinatra and O' Dowd in shaping the NME's "away-from-the-mainstream" editorial ethic? Most suspicious behaviour....
The NME have always excelled themselves on thinking they know it all, but all of this shameless communal onanism amongst their (mostly) male perpetrators can only be bad for their own health - let alone ours...... remember, too much self-gratification can make you blind........shit! Too late.....It's already happened!!!
