Been listening to this a lot over the past while, and it's definetly an improvement over the album version. I think it gives it a bit of a lift, compared to the flat original.
Although what were they thinking with the backing vocals?
Anyone else prefer this version?
When a remix is better than the original, it tells you a lot from the original mix.
RIAD, World and Spooky have all better remixes than the album version.
Regret is the only exception, though the Fire Island mix is excellent.
Tells you a lot about Republic and how good it COULD have been if you replace by the k-klass edit of RIAD, the perfecto edit of world and the minimix of Spooky, it's a whole new album!
Not forgetting the Krafty (Morel's Pink Noise Vocal) which is infinitely better than the drab album version 
Should've been a dance track from the start.
World (Perfecto Mix) is one of my favorite remixes of all time. It defined an era for me. Mix it into the Sexy Disco Dub and you're ravin'.
EXCELLENT version and whilst a LOT round here don't care too much for REPUBLIC i played the SINGLES and PROMOs from this era A LOT.And i bloody LOVE em.

Backing vox being movef to the downbeat and shoved up a lot in the mix, I am not so sure about, the "can you feel it" stuff comes over as megacliche incarnate. But the pounding drums and screeching "hammond" noise [1], are totally fabulous.
New order have always been capable of fucking up a good track by putting a wanky set of drum samples on it, World is a fine example, RIAD is another, floppy pish. Give the original better drms ( leave the part intact, just change the sounds) and bang that Hammond into it nice and loud and you'd have the ACTUAL perfect World.
[1] as in Hammond organ, not "i'm just hitting 300 now and Ohh BALLLLLLLLSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

It's more that the backing vox on this version sound like they're getting something shoved up their arse.

Fire Island this, Fire Island that. What about the New Order Mix? I love it to bits, far more than that Fire Island one.
not liking any of the perfecto mixes for world or true faith, unfortunately. oakenpoop is not my cup of tea.
i do really like the original version of each b/c they're much more straightforward. the perfecto mixes just have so much layering that's it hard to discern the details of the production.
That's the only remix of the song I've heard so far (I've also heard the shortened version of the original song). I, too, don't like the background vocals. Makes the song sound like gospel. World is not the same thing as Madonna's "Like a Prayer."
Fucking shite! Worst remix they've put out. The K.Klass remix of World was better,as was the Brothers In Rhythm remix. Oakenfold may have done a good job with Happy Mondays,and he certainly bettered the U2 tracks. Didn't give New Order anything for my money.

If I'm not mistaken, its Terry Farley & Pete Heller who run the Junior Boys Own label (ie Underworld, Chemical Bros)..they mostly dj/produce solo these days rather than as a duo

Yeah but he said 80's/90's... 
The perfecto mix is indeed wonderful.
But obviously the BLT mix on rest of is the best mix of all time.*

Yeah the Perfecto mix is one of the better NO remixes out there, though the 'can you feel it' does grate
