I'm probably a bit late with a comment on this film as many of you chariot racers will have already seen it but there you go.

Utterly superb in every respect. I'm not one to give out praise lightly but this film is exceptional in my opini-onion. From start to finish I was on the edge of my stool (mainly to prevent the popcorn tub from slipping and causing a cinema popping corn landslide to the Order faithful) and to me, it was very moving. Alan Partridge managed Tony Whipsnake very well, pitching his voice with consumate ease ... I thought the man himself was actually on the screen at one stage! (I think he was actually).

Anyway, great film, great acting, smashing storyline (did all of this really happen in real life?) and the oscar must go to whomever played Sir Robert of Gretton ... quite outstanding.

The only bad point of the whole event was that Morrissey was unable to attend but given he is as stubborn as a mule that is really in fitting with the story.

9/10 from me ... 10/10 if it was 5 hours long.

:hat:

... what do you say?

The documentary on channel four was better ;)

Not seen it. My therapist said it would be bad for me.

I watched that documentary Intriguing Donald and it was good, however, I have been watching that kind of documentary since 1984 and thus have become increasingly frustrated why they don't just 'do a film' which has 'more in it'. I feel that has now been established and I suggest to you that all documentaries (which I have on Betamax) must be burnt in favour of VHS's of 24 Hour Goblins.

I would love to cast my eyes over a glorious large screen image of this very cinematic experience, however due to the proximity of Cilla Black my local cinema for local people has only just got Gone With The Wind (in stereo!!).

Tamworth has progressed to Sound of Music (though not in stereo admittedly):) word is they may show 24 Hr pp sometime in May... (like anyone there will care)

Thought you were going to hot foot it off to Stoke on the bus Major T or are you still sat behind your front door lying in wait for the Postie?

Yeah... looks like a court case is brewing there.

I strongly disagree on this. I don't think Coogan did a very good job of covinving me he was Wilson(or in fact that he wasn't Partridge) until the second hour, by which time I was a little bored. I agree the Gretton guy was spot on, could of fooled me if he could have just managed to change the shape of his head a little bit. The magic of factory was better encapsulated by the documentary, more time to dwell on the music which is the real star of the show, only when a track came on was I actualy excited. Also the real people involved convey the drama better than any actor could. The factual errors I've heard suggested were deliberate to keep us on our toes, (err why?) just looked sloppy to me. As for viewing it as a film if I didn't already know the story, it comes over as a messy two hours of stop, start occasionally amusing, nonsense. Having said that it's essential viewing. Major get down the cinema pronto, it's not likely to run and run.

Oh golly, I'm somewhere in between really.

Enjoyed the film a lot, though I was a bit tipsy at the time, thought Coogan was good if a little too AP, thought the soundtrack was ace if a bit predictable, thought the actors were all pretty spot on, with maybe the exception of Ralf Little (would anyone believe that little shit could 'knock out 2 skinheads'). Well worth watching though, and one to get on DVD when it comes out

I thought the actor doing Ryder was pretty poor, and a little to small. One thing about Ryder was his enourmous charisma and presence, the little fells didn't have it and just came across as oafish and very punchable. The guy playing Curtis gave a studied performance but again he wasn't as good as the real thing and poor head shape to boot.

Wanky you've hit the nail on the arse there with your comments and things. If you do not know this story backside first the film will be poo or a little too wee. Knowing all and growing up with the story i.e. reading newspaper clippings etc. of any bits of Factory info. I could htis just verifies what actually happened. As far as films go it'll be boring for anyone other than is mighty interested in Factory. I'm not saying you aren't Wise-backside at all, I'm just saying that living with it puts a better edge on the viewing pleasure and I'd like to point out that all that I've read matches the films script so any red herrings were very well hidden ... apart from the size of Hooky's nose.

The best lines has to be about the 'Bunny Rabbit food' at which stage I nearly blew my own trouser across the audatorium.

Major ... sos. I didn't know what you meant before we too had to track down a cinema that was showing the film and we ended up under the belly of a beast.

yes, and his nose was too narrow (seriously). I kept wondering how he smelt? ... awful.

Sean Ryder was a bit podgy jack for defs. but 99% of everyone else was spot on ... except hooky who I didn't even recognise until the last 11 seconds. Did they get someone else to do Hooky's voice?

How long has the Huntsman been back on the scene? Are you going to the outdoor shows this summer, Huntsy??

Anyhows, the film IS great on every level. I was the trollop who suggested that the "mistakes" were deliberate; like the Huntsman says, the film is for those who know the story anyway, and the "errors" are there both as in-jokes AND as a comment on the limitations of our own knowledge, ie: how do we know ANY of this is true or false, since we've only been told it by other unscrupulous narrative-mongers, Wilson amongst them.

As my proof, I will out myself as a film studies lecturer at the Yooniversity on East Anglia, so I "know" what I'm "talking about".

Fave line? "Come and have a nosh with me, To......".

I saw it in.. dare i make this admission... The Trocodaro in LezzySq. :eek3: it was the only bloody place it was being shown that was convienant for a post work booze and film fest alright..!

So i put it to you o' hunted one, did the distinct lack of NO screentime in 24hpp not offend u in any way shape or form, of course sterling performances all round but for me the Mondays stole the show...

new order featured heavily as joy division one. i was a little biscuit worthy at the decision to focus on the happiest mondays than the order but put this down to the fact that the mondays added to the shambles factor of factory and thus, got the nod for the film. of course i would have liked there to have been 9 hundred to the power 5 of the order throughout but put my biast aside and enjoyed the film as the factory story rather than the new order story.

saying that, they could have put new order in more which would have been far better.

:hat:

i saw the mondays play live in '88 and they were horses arses.

I think the story of the Mondays is a bit more entertaining than NO to be honest - even if their music is far inferior.

I have also studied popular culture first hand at Europes top dance floors and football terraces. I further studied art for four years including one year specialising in Time Based Media.

Sorry, Mr. Wiseass: the pomposity was in a Wilson-stylee, so you are quite right to point me out as "a cunt".

Still think the movie is marvellous, though.

Well yeah I managed a 'C' in g.c.s.e I had to wait for them to change it from the old O' level which was too hard, unless you actuall did your homework and listened to the teacher, as my I.Q. was measured in the region of 137 on a test that took me twenty minutes, couldn't I have just pointed this out and said it's obvious I'm smart enough to pass the test, stop waisting my time!

Hoorah!! Hugs all round!! It's OK, mate: you called me "a cunt" with a smile, and that makes it a term of affection in my book.

Kezzie ... i don't want to steal your thunder but i managed an 'e' at school (at maths, not the drug) ... then went to college to gain a remarkable 'f' on a re-sit. i wouldn't be beaten so spent another year achieveing an 'e' which was a marked improvement from the 'f'. either way i think the whole thing was piss and i hated maths. nowadays i do maths all the time and realised that me not revising or doing any work was the reaons i never passed it.

and snake ... fuck you because people who are good at maths also purchase pigs trotters.

I started to re-sit at college...but gave up after about 2 months. Have always absolutely hated maths after not being allowed to play in the sandpit at infant school until I finished my sums, which I found just too tedious to bother with. From then I was always behind, which is why I'm one of the few people in the world who likes the line 'It beats arithmetic...' I know where the fella's coming from...;)

Have to say it was one of the few if not the only films ive seen whereby when a character (Wilson) turned and talked to the camera, it didnt completly piss me off, i find that incredibly annoying and irritating when a films aura is spoilt by an actor talking to the camera! - but in this docu-film type scenario it actually worked surprisingly well.

Oh and yes Sebsy, L.Square is a bloody freak show!!

Identification the comment about turning to the camera and speaking has ruined many good films, however, agree that in this instance it works very well and actually enhances the movie. Tony Wilson is such a character its probably down to him that the movie could get away with such appauling behaviour.

Anyway, nice words and pearls of wisdom.

I concur with the many points raised above (and if i knew how to quote i would !) Me self and wifey went to see it and i throughly enjoyed it but the missus (who it has to said ain't a NO fan.......she likes bloody Enrique Inglassis and that sort of crap) found the film a tad difficult to follow (though this does tend to happen with all films which cover a longer period than 24 hrs......imagine the fun we had when watching Pulp Fiction)

best line

Can you finish me off love (after Twats wife has caught him being noshed by a prozzie)
