Like a fictitious story about vampires or something? This has been nagging at my brain for a while now.
For some reason I keep thinking about vampires... or a woman vampire thing.
Its a funny song.

you are thinking too deeply. it is just about the ecstasy of being in love.
never try and over-analyse barney's lyrics.

But I really think he's singng about a vampire!

Maybe he had a love affair with one! You never know! ![]()
But yes, just listen to the lyrics. Like, if you fall in love with a vampire, you let them bite you, and you become together for eternity. A little "Paradise", lol. And all the little vampire-esque references made in the lyrics.
Barney's nuts! ![]()
Plus, I think Barney's a bullshitter sometimes.
Because, a lot of these songs he says mean nothing at all, I think they do. LOL. Funny little themes here and there rather some some random, obvious nonsense (that rock nonetheless), that's in some other songs.
Cheeky bastards!!!

No reason why it shouldn't be about vampires, it does fit quite well. Can't see Bernard as an Anne Rice devotee though, can you?

No, but it just seems like a song out of them just being silly. I could totally see that.
I'm curious what the band's ever said regarding this song's meaning, if any. If so, I can only imagine it being something funny and totally off the wall.
Kinda like "1963", then again, he may have been serious. ![]()
But anyways, I had been listening to that album a lot, with the friend i mentioned in another thread that I was trying to convert into a NO fan. And we kept joking around about this song.
Not saying Barney or anyone are secret vampire story fans or that vampires are real and this is based on some whacked out true story.
Obviously.

Lighten up, its funny.
My apologies. So its a jokey topic? Its just Im finding it a strange subject to get my teeth into.
Its Doubts Even Here about Vampires? As it does mention them in the lyrics.
somehow i can't imagine them writing a song about vampires. too goth. dracula's castle is the exception to the rule (it's not goth, however), and it's a crap song anyway.

Its supposed to be funny! Can't you tell? Wow, dont think of everything as being all serious.
My friend asked me "what the hell is he singing about in this anyway?" and i said "I have no clue whatsoever." and then we both went silent for few seconds... and she laughs and says "Are the band fans of vampire stuff?" with a funny grin and we both broke out laughing.
But, seriously, thats an odd 'love' song, and its like a song about a dead woman or a vampire. Living forever, etc. You just think of vampires. You never know. I was never saying the band wrote that to be serious. The band, and Barney are very known for writing tongue in cheek, humorous lyrics and actually, yes I could see them doing a song underliningly about vampires back then. Just look at "Touched By the Hand of God", its about 'wanking' for god sakes. LOL. If you dont agree... uh... well.. ![]()
And by my posting this thread, I am not trying to take rise of any odd conspiracy theory or accusation. Or that Barney or Hooky had some fling with a Vampiress. LOL. Its just a funny discussion. As you may or may not have noticed in my first couple posts in this thread, I was in a somewhat playful, goofyy mood.

But, it is an interesting discussion about a very great song, and what others think the song may be about. Personally, its becoming one of my top 20 New Order songs. Its rather different, compared to a lot of their other stuff. Its romantic, even sexy, and a hint of humor in there somewhere, which in itself is a type of mystery with this band's songs. Sometimes you feel like a song is taking the piss on something and you're just not sure 'what'.

Well done :)
love/obsession romance/violence devotion/destruction passion/reckless abandon
walking spirits are we.
"Devastate the night forever"
destroy/illuminate
I hold on to the illuminate thought myself.
if you were the only being alive, would you wanna live?
spirits communicating? or smalltalk? interesting.....another drink? nice to meet you. ah to the left hand side....i say. cheers.

If they made a video, I dont think many fans would bat an eyelid.
In fact, it would probably suck.
Anyway, Im off now to give blood.
I'm sure I read somewhere that Bernard had an interest in Nosferatu and such
I could surely bite his neck...
I always thought it had a touch of the stalker/serial killer about it...
It's probably actually about going to the chip shop though... ![]()

"if we left this town we could walk the earth together"
Vampires "walk the earth" don't they?

I think Paradise is about ripping off Cheap Trick......
The song is alright, but they could have written a more developed chorus.
