Half the band don't even remember it being written, Bernard claims never to have heard it, Hooky thought Re: Order were playing it when they were doing Cries and Whispers (he'd missed us playing it an hour earlier), but what's the truth about it?
Steve wrote it, right? They played it with a drum machine on that US 80 tour before adding Gillian to the band and the assumed debut at the Squat? Did Steve write the words or the music or both?
...and who's holding onto the earliest known live recording of it (Maxwell's) and not sharing?
I've always been a bit annoyed that Barney claims never to have heard cos it's such a good song. He's probably just taking the piss though. And as far Hooky not realising it was a completely different song C&W/Procession is just a bit 
Last time they played it was the back end of '85 at London Polytechnic - which is a brilliant version of the song, i don't know why they didnt keep playing it from time til time.
Also, it was released as an A-side, so if the band don't remember it, then they mustn't have a fucking clue about songs like We All Stand!
And I was always under the impression that Steve wrote the lyrics, but i'm sure he could have written all of it

Where did the rumour come from that Steve wrote it anyway? I have always been curious about that.
As for the master......did Rob not have that in his stash of goodies?
Also, do we have futher rumors of other songs being one particular member's works? (Aside from Republic, which is widely regarded as being Barney's pet project w/ little input from the others)

It never really came across very well live, more often than not they stuffed it up and the bass really jarred against the synth.
Shame because it is a top notch song imo. Ripe for a C3 remix I'd say...
I always thought Procession was definitely Bernard's set of words, although it's probably the most wordy of early NO until Temptation came along. I find that the tone and imagery isn't that far from EGG and Cries and Whispers. I assume that Bernard was writing most of the words at the get-go, but allowed input from the others through PC&L. If you read archival articles, Bernard starts to identify himself as the lyricist after PC&L/Blue Monday. Most likely a confidence issue in that regard.
Dream Attack was Gillians wasn't it?
it's working title was "Gillian's Acoustic One" so I'm guessing it was born out of what was originally a Gillian idea.

Do you think that was genuine? Certainly sounded like it from the snippet I heard. The guy posted on WIM occasionally. I'm sure there will be at least one US 80 tape in that pile of Rob's tapes. I was expecting Mat Norman to have documented them all by now, he told me it was one of the big areas they were working on several months ago, I did offer to do that for him, but didn't hear back.

Mark Johnson stated it in An Ideal For Living, but he also said that the Squat was the debut performance, which is unlikely.

Absolutely genuine on Hooky's part, he turned to me at the side of the stage at Blue Saturday during Cries and Whispers and said "what the fook's this? It's not one of ours! Is it Procession?"

They played it at Rouen a week later as well, which was the last time.

They don't!!!! ;) Reliably informed that they can't remember half the stuff from Get Ready these days, if it ain't rehearsed on a regular basis it don't make the cut!
