before the internet and lyrics archives, did you ever had any misheard lyrics by new order? what did you think barney or ian was singing before lyric sheets and that?

for me, when barney sings the perfect kiss, i always thought he sang "i should have stayed at home thinking about my precious soul" not "playing with my pleasure zone" somehow, i like my version better... :D

There was one line in Sunrise that I wasn't sure about, and couldn't for the life of me work out that line in All The Way about Parasites and Literacites ! WTF is a literacite ?

The best one was the "school exam, the kids have run away" in Regret. No idea it said School Exam before !

 Exactly the same songs as me!! Same with the "It don't take no Houdini" (It don't take no convening) always thought Bizarre was "Every time I think of you - I get shot right through by the both of you":nonono:

There are many, many more:evil4:

You should see the number of hilarious misinterpretations some of us posted on that OTHER NewOrderWeb Forum re: the opening lines of "Bizarre Love Triangle" - they'd make you laugh!!!

Pretty nifty thread this one - the potential for so much dredging from one's memory of so many lyrical faux-pas is enormous.... I'll have to start thinking back and listening again now....

 i'm trying to think of any particularly amusing instances i've had with mishearing lyrics and Order songs, and i can't particularly...often enough, the real lyrics are funny enough on their own.

(i will NEVER be able to get over "you keep me feeling fresh, we're driving down that highway" from "Sabotage"... )

i do have a funny story on this topic, though:

this guy i work with, he was part of a band called Ashtray Boy, right? someone contacted him and wanted to do a cover of one of their songs. as my coworker had written the lyrics and they'd not been published anywhere, this person wanted to double check and make sure they were okay. so he sent my coworker what he *thought* he'd heard...only of course it was completely different than the REAL lyrics had been.

but my coworker was like, "wow! these are SO MUCH BETTER than the real lyrics are! you should just use these instead!"

*coughs* i'll think of something...i know it. at about 3am tonight, to wake me up out of a sound sleep. ;)

I used to think that the line in Bizzare Love Triangle went

'Everytime I think of you I get shot right through every part of you' ...

I thought it was 'like in a Shallow bay'. I also thought it was meet as well, Until 10 seconds ago actually.

Still not 100% on the line from Special where he goes either

"stop saying that your caught in time" or "stop saying that your calling time"

I think its more likely the second one but they both kinda work on different levels.

I heard it as "calling time", which made sense to me in the context of the song.

Not a New Order song but as a very young boy I thought "Rock The Casbah" was "Rock The Gas Board". NB. This was before privatisation when we had one all encompassing gas board as opposed to loads of power companies.....just to put it in context you understand!...I'll get me coat!!!!

Now that one's funny!!

On a similar unrelated matter:

In the middle of "Mountains" by Prince & The Revolution, I SWEAR the young woman (Lisa?? Wendy??) is excitedly yelling "Bobby I'm A Scrubber!!" a split second before Prince himself screams in horror at the realisation of it all...!!

And "Message In A Bottle" by The Police - Sting MUST be singing: "A Year has passed since I broke my nose"...

There's TONS of these things!!!

For ages I thought the line in the World in Motion "rap" that goes 'We ain't no hooligans...' was 'We ain't no Ruud Gullit' Doh! :o

I thought at the time it was a bloody stupid line...

Classic mishearing from a mate of mine was 'Hey Joe, where you going with that THING ON YOUR HEAD'

And my best mate's ma makes them all the time...thought the chorus of PSB's Domino Dancing ('All day, all day') was 'Hard boiled egg', and Chris Rea's Road to Hell was 'This is aerobics in hell'

The classic one has gotta be The Police "So Lonely"

he's so blatently singing about Sue Lawley

Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze

"Excuse me, while I kiss this guy."

Blondie heart of glass 'I'm lost in the bluish light' as 'I'm lost to the Jewish line' (marrying a gentile, I guess)

Blast from the past: I always thought the line in True Faith was "When I was a very small boy/Very small boys TORTURED me", not "talked to me"

One more recent: I can swear it like Barney's saying "leaper head" or "leper head" in HTS. Sorry, that's just what I hear

I like Barney's bit of Dali-esque surrealism on "Ceremony" myself actually:

"Howard Hughes, all lined with trees,Pigeon me and then you're stopwatching...."

;)

or it could have been:

"Howard Hughes, hole lined with cheese,Pigeon meat and then you stop washing...."

:D

My mistakes:

True faith: "I get this feeling an emotion..."

Fine time: "You know we make a lot of courtesy..."

Blue Monday: "I am an shallow bays..."

I also struggled with:

Transmission: "Synchronise love to the beat of the show"

This time i'm not wrong: "Your a nuclear bomb"

Regret: "before they fall apart"

Ceremony: (all of it!)

Perfect kiss: "playing with my pleasure zone"

.... and loads more....

I'd always heard the line in Atmosphere as "Aching to see" rather than "Naked to see" and as for NO, from As It Is...., I heard "This state of grace is consuming me" as "costuming me".

i think that in "the him" barney and hooky say "pick juan, show cale my ice cream." i assumed they were talking about john cale of velvet underground fame, and that juan was a name assigned to a drug-induced hallucination of some sort. they also may very well have been hard up for lyrics at that point
