Who was the bloke at your work then?
Not the Bristaaal Rovaaars Priest then? Assumed it must be him as he was a West Country lad. Funny to see a Priest (or vicar, or whatever he was) wearing Stone Island over his dog collar.
I'm sorry, but I just don't buy that whole "and then everyone dropped E and hooliganism stopped". The late-80s/early-90s was the period when I was going all over the country following the Potters, and believe me it was far from peace 'n' love......
That vicar bloke was well funny - when he was doing his sermon 'Right this guy, like came down to earth, and then died for everyone...etc' . Think part of the the everyone dropepd an E bit is just due to the fact that the coppers were getting a bit of control and the rave scene was a new high.
I do agree though - like wise early nineties I had to scarper form many a nasty situation - certainly didnt transform overnight - personally I think its more to do with the influx of cash from Sky, and the aftermath of Hillsborough, and the all seater stadia
That programme really scared me last night....there are some bloody mental people in the world ![]()
Laughed at the end bit though when that fella was on about 45 year olds still wearing Stone Island gear...I thought, 'how's he met me dad??' ![]()
There's an element of truth in the E thing. Anyone remember a programme called, I believe, "Whatever happened to the knockers?" which had some West Ham lads 'then' and 'now'. And in the 'now' bit Swallow, one of their main players, owned his own record company and another had done a book on Primal Scream. Most were now dead chilled and well into the club scene. The ICF even had their own pirate radio station for a while, I think?

wasn't one of the main players at all, was in the crowds... besides he's city not rovers & I don't work in a church or a prison. that priest bloke has been on a few things round here & always dragged out whenever theres violence at rovers/city games
The Priest's also written a book on the subject, hasn't he? A mate of mine is Rovers and I remember him trying to get hold of the book but it turned out it was a 'religious release' only or something, and not mainstream.
Mind you, everyone on FFC last night was a bloody writer!!
You've certainly got that one right, Jarv: its turned into a right little mini-industry. And they all sound the fucking same: "fucking Chelsea, think they've got some top boys, but they're shit ... Got time for 'Boro, though, we had a good few rucks with those lads ... Now I want to put something straight, I don't go in for hitting shirters ... all boys wann do is ruck with other lads: why can't the coppers leave us alone? ... And then it all went off, bricks coming through the pub windows: "Right! Here they are!" and we went steamin' in and it went right off" ete etc etc
Done one, you've done 'em all......
I don't know if anyone from this list will remember the Reading University gig where there was quite an unfortunate mix of students/very young fans and & more than just a few "casuals" thrown in for good measure.
This concoction just didn't work at all and after watching two fuckers harass/assault Alex (Stash) from Manchester, I waited behind them both 'til the ebb & flow of the audience opened up just enough for me to explain the error of their ways...then watch them both be carried out by the Uni' bouncers.
Martin Fradley was right when he pointed out that "E" didn't spell the end of the fighting though & as late as the recent Liverpool gig, my "stature" and accent saw me accused of being either a member of the local DS &/or CID...a very unpleasant situation to be in - especially when you consider how ridiculous the suggestion was in the first place (consider this Jarvo!) - to be faced by 7 Stone Island sponsored "fans" who'd already made their minds up regarding my fate.
I'm sure you'd have enjoyed that Mr Briggs...
I've never understood this violence thing, either at football, outside pubs or at New Order gigs. I can safely say I harbour absolutely no violent thoughts or intentions towards anyone, with or without a shedful of Stella.
I wouldn't claim to understand it either - having been on the receiving end I have to say it is no fun at all waking up in hospital.
What I was referring to was a reaction to watching a friend being humiliated by two guys far too tidy to be bothering Alex-Stash just for being overweight.
My reaction/actions were as bad as theirs.

...no seriously not at all - Violence is an evil thing, and all the losers that participate in footy violence and the like should be shat upon from a great height.
As this is a footy thread, I'd just like to say COME ON YOU RIP ROARING POTTERS!!!!!!!!!
The "Soul Crew" can kiss my arse.....
Yeah nice one, hope they finish the job in Cardiff. Notice all that talk about the end of footy violence hasnt extended to the Ninian park faithful yet
Quote of the Season has to go to the PA announcer at Ninian Park last night. As the fourth official held up the board to indicate how much injury time was to be played, there was the following announcement:
"Would all home fans please stay off the pitch at the final whistle so that Sam and the boys can do a lap of honour."
