decent music biogs etc

having read some of the "jd to no" thread it seems most of you enjoyed this book, i myself did not , i thought it was too much like an encyclopedia, it's alright as a point of reference (probably what its meant to be) but i dont think its an entertaining read... so what the fcuk am i banging on about? well whats your fave music related book? heres a few of mine... oh and another thing i dont think you have to be a fan of a certain band to find them interesting at the end of the day i just enjoy a good anecdote... here goes head on/repossessed- julian cope (this is my fave brilliant from start to finish) 45- bill drummond the dirt- motley crue no irish no blacks no dogs- john lydon go tell the mountain- jeffrey lee pierce light at the end of the tunnel- the damned last gang in town- the clash confusion is next- sonic youth you can now get the julian cope book for about£3 in alot of record shops.. so come on recommend me a good read..

I remember reading Moonwalk (Michael Jackson bio) three times through when I was a little moonwalking Michael Jackson loving little chap !! Hmmm ... I really like An Ideal For Living by Mark Johnson as mentioned above ... Haven't read to many music books not related to New Order/Joy Division ...

The guy who wrote The Clash book Last Gang In Town also wrote one on R.E.M. called It Crawled From The South, written in the same style. Not really much of a fan of theirs any more, but it's still a good read.

The Talking Heads book This Must Be The Place is also pretty good.

Was thinking of ordering the Bill Drummond book, looks like I will now. Head On by Cope always make me smile in general amusement at the attitudes that were a bit prevalent back then.

Also, I do like the Negativland book on their legal troubles with U2, Island Records & Casey Kasem about 10 years ago. It's composed by a lot of reproduced faxes, interviews, court documents, and credit reports on the whole legal mess. Also included is an interview with The Edge where the members of Negativland ask him for a loan despite the fact that they are being sued for copyright infringement by his record label.

read a really good one bout The Smiths but i can't remember the name or writer (don't suppose this is much help really) and Freaky Dancin by Bez is very entertaining (loved the bit about robbing Eddy Grants furniture from his recording studio to sell for crack)

reading no irish now - not v impressed with the format/writing style - too disjointed read crazy from the heat - that was ok the first julian cope one, head on, was good, not got repossessed on account of it coming with head on attached & already have half of that. the deborah curtis book was v good
