gal at work wants me to do her a "best of" the order...

I've been looking at it, and fuck me, I'll get it wrong...stuff like Guilt will make it on there if I choose...so give me a hand...

I need ONE disc worth or the order's best stuff...what makes the cut?

tailor it to what she likes.... does she like indie music? dance music? 80s music? bad stooges imitations? she might like "Guilt", it's very effete, or she might hate it if she is into indie/alternative

go for the obvious...

It sort of depends what kind of person she is and what she listens to, because she might prefer stuff like YSF to Sunrise

Temptation [1987 version] Crystal Ceremony [the second version] Procession Bizarre Love Triangle [Brotherhood version] True Faith Lonesome Tonight Love Vigilantes Regret Dream Attack Primitive Notion Waiting for the Sirens Call The Perfect Kiss [long version] Turn

That's 75:45, but you could easily sub in Leave Me Alone, Your Silent Face, Sooner Than You Think, Sunrise, Round and Round, Vanishing Point... I don't know if that helps you or not to be honest! They've done some great songs now that I think about it...

I think it also depends what you want out of this :)

I tend to not make mixed tapes/cds for co-workers unless I'm interested in them.

Are you hand delivering this and drinking red wine while listening to it with her to "explalin" the wonders of New Order? That would radically change what tracks I'd suggest including...

Or are you strictly not interested and trying to turn a friend onto a great band?

Good point Kerry, but NO don't really do stuff for woo-ing a girl into bed "I think you are a pig, you should be in a zoo" is hardly going to cut it!

as mentioned above it depends what she likes, but regret should be on every NO compilation without exception.

Try this:

Blue Monday Regret Crystal Dream Attack Ceremony Run WFTSC Turn Bizarre Love Triangle True Faith Temptation Perfect Kiss

Disc 1 of Singles, but replace Subculture with Crystal, and swap State of the Nation for Regret.

I pretty much agree with this compilation but would add As it was when it was, All Day Long, Avalanche and Run Wild to show NO's softer side.

fill out the above CD with these classics, would an excellent overview IMO, with all the facets of New Order... Age of Consent Love Vigilantes Thieves Like Us Paradise ... well, maybe not enough room

Turn the Heater On is the closest thing New Order has to a romantic humper...I've always liked that cover, thou many here seem to hate it

Simply copy the first disc of Substance.

Then put Vanishing Point, Round & Round, Regret, Crystal, Here To Stay and WFTSC on a CDR, and you're done.

Or copy Singles.. that should do the job.

You can't give her everything.. you need to want her to find out more about them ;) so keep stuff like Age of Consent, Your Silent Face, Leave Me Alone for later experience ;)

You need to start with the catchy stuff. When I first travelled down this road in 1983, it took me a while to appreciate early NO, then Joy Division. You don't want to scare the poor girl off. I especially liked Ecstacy when I first started listening. You should also include Here To Stay and Your Silent Face from the Peel Sessions.

Peel sessions?

Did I miss something? or you're talking about the 2001 BBC Sessions for Steve Lamacq?

i just looked at the Reading 93 gig. you could do far worse than this song list.

1 Ruined In A Day
2 Regret
3 Dream Attack
4 Round & Round
5 World
6 As It Is When It Was
7 Everyone Everywhere
8 True Faith
9 Bizarre Love Triangle
10 Temptation
11 The Perfect Kiss
12 Fine Time 13 Blue Monday

I'd still have Run somewhere in there though. You can intorduce her to the newer stuff later.
