Like him or loathe him, the fact(sic) of the matter is this;

No Tony Wilson, no Factory, No Joy Division etc., etc., etc.

There is no real debate over this. Even if the band HAD been picked up - which I seriously doubt - they would never have been allowed to develop in the way they did. There would certainly have been none of the history making, enigma creating style or panache that Factory embodied and if truth be told, was responsible for 99% of the interest that people have in New Order and associated bands...
