Did You GET ready?

Not played this album for AGES and i am surprised just how good some of the tracks on here sound after this long lull between hearing them again.Vicious Streak especially.I know when this album came out i had a lot more INTERESTING things to do than sit around all day playing CDs.But at the moment i have loads of time and fcuk all to do(now i ain't drinking)other than fix the house up whilst selling it.Also does anyone know where my copy of IN SESSION went to?I fear i NEVER actually bought it and spent the money on MONSTER MUNCH! 'Crystal' - Does not get much better than that in my book!

Only one I really can't deal with is 'Rock the Shack', good tune don't get me wrong, but after the first verse there is a really annoying high pitched squeal on the recording. Ive checked several copies of the CD and a download so its not just my copy. It must send dogs mad! Don't have a dog so have no proof...

Can anyone confirm pet dog vs 'Rock the Shack' effect?

I can confirm horrible whirling noise. It comes in when Bobby Gillespie sings. God knows why they added it as it detracts from the song and is extremely annoying.

Some other NO songs have a similar annoying sound effect on them also. The ones Ive noticed are Face Up, We All Stand, Sunrise and Thieves Like Us. Has anyone else noticed this? I think its Barneys vocals!!!:D

Get Ready was a strange album to make for a 'comeback' album. I liked it when it came out but I like it a lot more now that I can more objectively stack it up to the rest of their collection. Primitive Notion, Crystal and 60 Miles an Hour remain on my ipod to this day.

I always thought it was a decent album. Primitive Notion is the stand out track for me. Slow Jam and 60MPH are the weak links in my opinion.

When I first heard it, I shelved it. Couldn't get into it aside from the "sappy track" (Run Wild). I really like that song.

Then every now and again I'd slip it into the disc changer and listen to Vicious Streak and pine for Player in the League to be in the listing, mostly ignoring Crystal when I could.

Now its 2007 and I've mostly accepted it as the album it is. I don't turn it off when it comes on and can stand listening to it straight through. I figure time has done wonders to grow it on me.

Didn't make too much of an impression on me the very first time i played it on that release day, August bank holiday 2001 ( about 3 months after every other bastard heard it).But it got better after a couple of listens.Not played it for ages but been meaning to get round to playing Vicious Streak and Primitive Notion lately

Aint listened to gr for ages. Have to agree with the comments further up that crystal is a beauty!

As for 60mph,this could have been a much better track if only the lead guitar was louder imho.

And run wild,yep starts of soppy then has a sting in the tail at the end with the lyrics "im gonna live til i die,i'm gonna live to get high"

it deffo is a grower. still it could have been a few songs shorter.

Never liked the album title- but it's great musically, sort of like a far more acceessible version of electronic's twisted tenderness. Vicious Streak sticks firmly in my mind- highly underrated!

It's just a shame that after getting ready we had to wait for the siren's call.

Slightly baffling but great (just) album... first single Crystal is easily one of the best things they've ever done but then followed it up with the steaming pile of horseshit we know as 60 MPH. Also, half way through the album Slow Jam and Rock The Shack pretty effectively drag the quality right down. Primitive Notion is a fcuking class tune though.

There is a CDr promo out there titled "Not Yet Ready" which thankfully ditches Rock The Shack and adds Sabotage/Player In The League to the tracklisting. Add the Edit of Crystal and slightly longer mixes of Someone Like You/Run Wild and you've got the definitive Get Ready you won't find in the shops

I believe the CDr has been bootlegged to buggery for years now so shouldn't be that tough to hunt down. It's definitely worth checking out

I like the sound of that Not Yet Ready. I always thought those B-Sides should have been on the album.

Get Ready is fucking great, go back to when it was released and compare it to what else was released in that same year and nothing compares. Everyone that I've played it to who wasn't a New Order fan has been impressed. And Primitive Notion... what a tune, never fails to put a smile (or deranged grin depending on how you look at it) on my face.

I've loved it since it was released, yes even RTS, take out the dodgy lyrics and Mr Gillespie and it has some decent music

Crystal, Vicious Streak, Primitive Notion and rUn wild are my standout tracks

I still believe Turn My Way is the worst new order song ever recorded.

And I am a fan of Corgan, I just think their two voices are impossible to mix.

A mediocre track with crappy vocals.

And I still think people miss the point of RtS... it was just a throwaway fun tune that the too stoic too serious new order fans couldn't handle... I always thought after 20 years they should be allowed to put one crap song on an lp, especially if they enjoyed it.... no, it ain't intense art like Heart and Soul, but it is good to hear them having a good time...

but I argued about that enough in 2002....

one last thought about GR: Someone Like You is the most underrated song on the lp...

Decent album. Not my favorite, but not my least favorite. "Close Range," "Crystal," "Primitive Notion," and "Vicious Streak" are all solid songs. The rest I could take or leave.

It´s a pretty good album (like Barney said in the DVD 5 11)!

I thought that instead of his vocals, they should've used Corgan's guitar playing. And, you're very right - the vocals are very hard to mix. Barney sounds very pop on that album and Corgan has always sounded like a product of American '90s rock, aka grunge and alternative.

Well thanks to everyone that replied to this thread.I don't often venture on the sane side these days.And great to see MAJOR TARANTINO voicing his opinion.This guy made this site fun for me when i joined in MAY 2002.

Funnily enough I gave Get Ready a play this week after about a 1 year or so lay off and also forgot how good it was. Okay I prefer NO's electronic/dancier stuff which there isn't much of on Get Ready but apart from a few tracks Get Ready delivers no nonsense indie rock'n'roll and gave a rightly deserved kick in the a*** to the 'Pop Idol' music business in 2001. Overall I'd rate it 8 out of 10. It's not the best thing they’ve ever done but it certainly isn't the worst and s***'s all over Republic which I also played this week LOL! Being slightly biased Crystal is possibly one of the best rock songs of this decade and along with 60MPH, Vicious Streak, Primitive Notion, Someone Like You - which should have been a proper single and not a promo and Close Range gave new direction to NO's sound they arguably wouldn't have achieved if they had still been making music together in the mid/late '90's. Okay Run Wild and Rock The Shack aren't the highlights of NO's career but the later is a good jam session IMO and is certainly a good track to play in a pub or after a few beers. You can debate the merits of including Sabotage, Player In The League or even 24HRPP's Here To Stay on Get Ready but on the whole NO put together a very good album after their 8 year hiatus and like what you mention the passing of 5-6 years since it's release have probably brought a classic feel to the tracks on Get Ready - any thoughts? Almost word for word what I would have out - only differences being that Primitive Notion is a great tune, and Run Wild is an embarrassing pile of wank!

turn my way , gets my vote for an under rated order song,, the album doesnt have the sequence of a lot of the others though im a real rock the shack fan ,,loved it when gilespie came on to sing it live with em back at the turn of the decade..

i never realised.

Get Ready is the first NO album that i ever heard. Before i listen tekno but it start to make me bored, so i start to listen more slowly and abstract musik like Boards of Canada, Plaid and other /trip hop and chill-out/+ Depeche Mode. When i play Get Ready and heard Crystal and others i was amazed! Now i have all NO discography and know the truth but still think Get Ready is great album who realy works!!!
