The 'output' leading up to this reads like a classic fairy tale:
Unknown Pleasures; Constipated for so long that the simple joys of a decent shit are forgotten.
Closer; The laxatives are starting to work, but nothing is yet produced.
Still; The brown stuff is about to unload, 'tis the calm before the storm.
Movement; The shit is unleashed, the constipation is solved and everyone lives happily ever after!
Movement? Bog-standard stuff to me. Not as accessible as World In Motion, but not crap either. Now if only they'd got Gillian McKeith in the band instead of Gillian Gilbert, then Movement would have been a number one album!

they really shouldve ditched hannett when jd ended. i mean, i love hannett, but his vision was old on movement.
All it needs is a good re-recording. Every single song on there is ace. The mixes are just muddy. Of course, that kind of works too. Still...
The shoddy production card still being overplayed for Movement then!
The voice, the sound and the songs still wouldn't have been there even if Hannett had done a better job.

That's absolute bollocks - seeing NO live in 81 & 82 was an almost religious experience. When they lost that intensity in late '82 and beyond they were never the same band again.
I've said it before - don't judge the Movement era if you weren't there. For many of us who came through from JD days, that early era still has a magical quality that is very precious.

Just because I "wasn't there during the Movement era after coming through the JD days" does not mean I'm not entitled to an opinion on the record. I wasn't commenting on gigs if you re-read what I wrote. I'm just not a fan of those songs (bar Dreams Never End) despite giving the album numerous chances. The Peel Session recordings don't float my boat either.
I do agree with you on one thing though; they weren't the same band afterwards.
Having said that, I much prefer the band they became.
Never been a fan of Movement, but there's a lot on this site who'll disagree with me - if we all liked the same songs, the world would be a boring place! 
Movement is Beautiful...Dreams Never End is among the Best New Order has done. Excellent album cover...whenever I hear the music, that color appears in mind. Very Special album when the time is right, and it compliments the rest of the New Order output nicely.

Yes, sometimes I wish they'd changed their name again to avoid confusion (..and God i wish they had avoided Confusion!) between the band I liked and the band that most people are vaguely aware of that did BM, BLT, True Faith, etc.
It always irks me when people lump NO in with the Pet Shop Boys and Depeche Mode because my NO are nothing like them but of course the BM/BLT/TF,Shellshock, etc band are actually in the same kind of genre.
The other band that caused me such problems were The Beloved who started as a decent indie guitar 4 piece but became tedious dance music peddlers.
