Will Control be in theaters in North America. Are there gonna be a DVD? release date? Or that is yet to be decided? I will buy it. (The DVD will probably be PAL oops

When is Sundance?
Since it's very indie, it will probably have a shot there, if the date fit.
A friend of mine is a indie producer, who was visiting Philadelphia last week, and in passing, I mentioned this film, and she said look for it at the Toronto Film Festival in September -- outside of Sundance, I believe it is the second biggest North American film festival that draws all the big players. If so, could the band be bothered to show up....
I've said it before,and i will say it once again.Straight to DVD back end of 07.Apart from us,who else is going to be interested.Nobody has ever heard of Joy Division,one hit wonders,thats all. Mind you what a fucking HIT!!!!!!!!!

Direct to DVD will be "Control"'s fate....direct to the two for ten bucks Walmart DVD cutout bins in 2008!!
It won't be direct to DVD. Don't you people pay attention to how movies are marketed and distributed? Just because it doesn't come to the multiplex doesn't mean it won't have a limited theatrical release.

Exactly. I saw 24 Hour Party People in a theater in San Francisco.
Control will be pushed toward the art house crowd, who will be curious about the story if not the specifics. It's a compelling drama, and it's in black and white. They won't be trying to market it to the general public, but it'll still play in theatres in major markets.

True, Toronto became one of the biggest film festival in the world, especially for US movies & stars... they all come here.
But it's not Cannes.
24 Hour Party People was featured at the Montreal Film Festival, it was in fact the North American Premiere... though this is a festival that lost a lot through the years.

It'll be the same here, just like 24HPP.
i saw 24pp in charlotte, nc (big city, but southern and not-so-artsy) and not in a art theater either. however, i think control, being b&w, will be shown in the art theaters. still, i'm sure it won't go straight to dvd. a lot of people know joy division here. and people like suicide, when other people do it.
There is too much at stake for it to go straight to DVD. This is Anton's directorial debut, and a lot of people, industry people will be curious to see how he does with a narrative. His music videos were innovative and talked about, and his photography even more so. I would expect a limited run in theaters across North America, and depending on reviews, a push for some sort of award - be it art production or cinematography or Adapted Screenplay.
I think that might be why it pushed all the way back to the fall. The producers and studio must think they have a shot for something.

) The film is due for a September release. Would that be theater or DVD?
Not sure it would be worth watching in a theater. DVD definately. This type of story seems intimate to me, so seeing it with a crowd of people would ruin the mood, I suppose. Would like to watch it in the privacy of my home, with lights off and kids/wife in bed. Seems to me it would have more impact that way.

Shites and smirks aside, I would really love to see it in the theatre, as I don't go out very much at all anymore to the movies [it's a rarity], so I'm all the more excited for the film. I wouldn't mind seeing it on DVD either.
In either case, I'd pay to see/own it anyway.
...oh and, everybody's been nudging me to see 24HPP, which I have NOT seen.

It will show in theatres in all major cities, at the very least, don't be thick!
24PP was a critical slam dunk - and Joy Division are more known in North America now then ever - so there's probably expectations that it will do fairly well for an indie.
