Im sure most of you will have seen this by now but just in case..

Whatcha reckon..??

Personally i think taking Wes Brown and Danny Mills is a poor decision. Good to see Dyer, Hargreaves and Joe Cole made the squad though.

Gutted to not see McManaman as with his european experiance he should really be there i think but other than that its fairly solid.

GOALKEEPERS

Seaman (Arsenal), Martyn (Leeds), James (West Ham)

DEFENDERS

Ferdinand (Leeds), Campbell (Arsenal), Southgate (Middlesbrough), Ashley Cole (Arsenal), Bridge (Southampton), Mills (Leeds), Brown (Man Utd), Keown (Arsenal)

MIDFIELDERS

Beckham (Man Utd), Scholes (Man Utd), Gerrard (Liverpool), Dyer (Newcastle), Butt (Man Utd), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Joe Cole (West Ham)

FORWARDS

Owen (Liverpool), Heskey (Liverpool), Vassell (Aston Villa), Fowler (Leeds), Sheringham (Tottenham)

On standby: Murphy (Liverpool)

Who would you take if it wasn't Brown and Mills? Only other candidates are Carragher and Neville, and they're surely mostly used at LeftBack?

Yeah, Macca's arse-warming of the Madrid bench could've worked wonders on ours too. .

I too am gutted not to see McManaman.....

One too many centre backs and one too light in the midfield. Apart from that I think it's about right.

Instead of Brown and Mills...

Carragher and McManaman. I don't think you need that many defenders. Wes Brown is a luxury, why have 5 central defenders?? Carragher would have been a good choice simply due to the fact he is two footed and versatile. He can play anywhere along the backline. For Liverpool he played left back this season, but before that he was a centre back! He is a lot more reliable than Brown and dramatically better than Mills(who is also a bit temperamental and may lose his head under the pressure of the world stage)

Some say Ericssons more interested in building a young squad and Macca is now 30, but i don't think this holds up. Sheringham is 34 and included!!

Simply McManaman speaks for himself. A player than can produce something from nothing could be the difference between winning or not. This is why he's taken Joe Cole, but McManaman has more experience and will work harder even if he is not as tricky. I think both Cole and Macca should have gone.

Even the worlds greatest players who play with him at Real Madrid (Zidane and Figo) have said they can't believe he's not included as he is such a tremendous player!!

I also noticed Ray Parlour has not been included despite very good current form.

Personally I'm gutted. This was my last chance to get into a World Cup squad, as I'll be too old for the 2006 World Cup. Consequently, and after consultation with my family, I've decided to announce my retirement from International football with immediate effect.

Carragher - of the good temperament - chucked a coin at Arsenal fans approximately three months ago. Can't have done himself any favours there, even if it was a one-off.

Think Mills is the only regular club Right Back in the squad, isn't he? Though I should imagine Brown'll get the nod over him cos, again, of Mills's 'suspect' temperament.

I don't think Macca should go purely cos he doesn't regularly play week in / week out.

And he was embarrassingly shite when he came on against Albania. Anyone who looks shite against Albania deserves a question mark !

I'm thinking of doing the Daily Telegraph one with a few mates, did the Sun one for Euro2000 and although i started strongly i finished abymsmally!!! also the Sun typically was very light on useful facts and stats during the tournament, where as the Telegraph may prove to be a bit more serious in collating information during the tournament.

heres a link if you want to register. Cant sniff at the 50grand prize money either! not that i'll have a cat in hells chance of it, i seriously need to study recent form outside of europe before i pick my squad!!

Good ol' Shaggy eh Kez !?!!? Still think he's a class player, and was worth taking for a supersub role at least, cuz he's been turning on the style for R.Madrid when coming on as sub.

Kez perhaps you should let Sven know your feelings and he can drop Murphy and have Macca as the standby player instead. I'm sure he'd go for it ? :\ohwell:

*sigh* I think he's lovely.....Sorry, you caught me coming all over soppy and girlie for a moment...:o

I think you might have a point, perhaps I should write a letter to Sven outlining my feelings, other wise I for one am not going to have any 'interest' in this World Cup ;)

BTW Scott, you've been a bit AWOL of late - what ya been up to?! :D

England's chances?? To be honest, I don't give a monkey's.... :sleep2:

All I'll be interested in is hoping they get kicked out the tournament - thanks to their inevitable marauding hooligan element making the front page news yet again - oh yes - before they reach the quarter finals, staying true to tradition (save for a couple of fluke occurances that is, when they got as far as the finals).

My patriotism now lies with Iceland anyway. ;)

The World Cup 2002 : :sleep2: :sleep2: :sleep2:

:violent: :violent: England Footie Hooligan Contingent

Make no mistake - they're bound to make some kind of an impression over there in Japan.
