Just had a phone call from our inside reporter Nickos Kingos.

Clearly heard Sunrise being played and he phoned me just before that but I only heard two seconds......I fookin hope it wasnae AGE OF CONSENT!!!!

I have been off work for the last two weeks with a virus, this did not cheer me up at all :viking:

On behalf of the Vikings in the audience......you lucky, lucky bastards :thumb:

Well...now that Barney is off of touring, it would make nice little sense if that soundalike Pottsy filled in on a few Order toons.

YeS,IT'S THE STUFF OF LEGEND!

After Pottsy's 6 song set,on came the maestro...with Jack on second bass!

For your money,oh the people who couldn't or weren't there, you're gonna shit....you got...

Insight ( with Rowetta on vocals) Age of Consent Sunrise Shine What do you want from me Insight ( encore )

It was fookin' awesome,& I can't contain my excitement,feel like a little schoolboy!

Amazing:clap:    :D :thumb:

Pottsy did a cracking job, joking before AOC that he hoped he wouldn't get slagged off tomorrow on here. For me,not a chance:clap:

It's all true, and it was great fun. Hooky Jnr's eternally straight-face was surely a JD pastiche.

Surely?????

Oh, and the gig was so 'intimate' that Hooky felt it necessary to touch up Pamela on the way to the toilet. TWICE.

It's lucky Ness wasn't around.

is jack on a sidekick, blackberry, or something? I'm sure these developments aren't a surprise to some people. Maybe this will convince Barney to load up the autocue with more songs.

Jack, you deserve a fuckload of credit for that tonight. Even if it did loook like you were going to shit the content of Pink Floyds wall at any given moment.

Still, you impressed me. And i'm a cunt.

gents it was a truly dogs bollox evening, after a good set by pottsy (haveyou got the album yet it damn fine!)the joy of hearing age of consent and sunrise is just amazing and even better for being in a small venue that was not overpacked..you wouldnt imagine rowette sings joy division would be good but it was and superb to hear the top monaco tunes.

Lets hope this happens again and if barney decides to hang up his mike for a couple of years i'd be happy to hear the old stuff sung by pottsy if its like that. Whoever has taped it please get the link up asap!!!!!!!

Oh, and just to make Pottsy's prophecy come tue, I'd just like to "bitch" about the lack of syndrums on "Insight", and though the lady behind the keyboards was very lovely, you couldn't hear the synths on "AoC". Tut.

Also, Pottsy could do with taking some tips from Liam and getting a good meal inside him - he's so skinny he made Jack look like a porker. Get some carbs in yer, fella!!

I guess nobody will shot me for giving details now, so I will tell a bit.

Sunrise was already rehearsed by Hooky, in fact he even offered us to do himself a cover that would have been on Community 2, due to schedules and New Order being busy, that never went through... obviously the idea of a New Order member "covering" New Order would have been funny, but let's be honest, sales would have been a lot better with Hooky on ;)

Age of Consent was rehearsed by New Order for the last tour, but I guess Barney was not confident enough to sing it and it never went through.

Insight is out of the loop, I guess they started to rehearse that one as well, maybe Jack can tell us... though it's not the most complicated song to play.

I would have loved to hear The Village, but I'll live with it ;)

Now let's hope some audio will leak, it has to ;)

The problem with Age Of Consent, and the reason they didn't play it in the end, was that Bernard no longer sings in the key in which the song was originally written, and they couldn't get it right in a suitable key during the rehearsals. Same for Sunrise and I think This Time Of Night. "Don't talk to me about fookin' key changes!! ;)"

so we missed out on AoC, Sunrise and TTON on the last tour  fair enough if he wasn't going to be able to do it in key though, probably wouldn't have done them justice if the singing was shite

Listen to Perfect Kiss from 2006 - they managed to get that one in a key that he could sing, but not the other ones. At least they were prepared to give them a go, that's something in itself. :thumb:

Sucessfully back north of the border! :viking:

Was originally a bit dubious about travelling all the way down to Manc for such a short set but a cracking night was most definitely had  Both Monaco tracks sounded as fresh as the day they came out a decade ago (bloody hell!) and Pottsy delivered the New Order tracks perfectly. Hooky ripping into the opening notes of AoC was easily one of the highlights of any NO-related performance I've seen.

It has to be said Jack did an solid job inbetween Pottsy and his dad... I'd have been shitting it in his position! Well done lad :thumb: pulled off nicely:

Got a load of photos which I'm currently sifting through. Spotnick's put the cream of the crop here for those who are interested (more to come). Monty was a true gent and nabbed me a photo of myself wedged between Hooky and Pottsy at the end which'll be getting framed shortly... worth the trip alone.

Monty, I've got a cracking one of you with the Hookmeister which I'll email shortly

Liam, I've still got your tenner.... and I'm keeping it

Once again good to meet up with some old/new faces and a special shout to Mr King who - as usual - handled the hotel and insisted immediately post-gig on giving me a tour of where the good record shops were in Oldham street (madman!) :D Picked up a few twelve inches this morning while I waited for my train.

Roll on next Friday! :smoking:

As I've said in my post on the other thread it was a excellent gig/night with a cracking set from Hooky and Pottsy along with the banter I had with everyone. Shame I can't make Manc v's Cancer but will be up for something eles very soon. A+ Hooky, Pottsy and the face's old/new I met last night Cheers!:thumb:

So they cant bother to put AOC or TTON or Sunrise in a key that Barney can sing, despite the fact that they are all classic New Order tunes....but they can play monolithic JD sludge like 24 Hours were the vocals werent even written by Barney? makes no sense to me.

Maybe they will drag out AOC on the next tour...thatd be grand. Why they keep shelving classic New Order songs to play crap JD songs like Warsaw and 24 Hours is beyond me. I didnt think Shadow play sounded that hot either....

I always figured they didnt play AOC because Hooky didnt wanna do the bass riff. I would imagine that playing that Bass riff would be hard on the hands after a while.....Ive tried playing it for 7 minutes straight it my hand hurt a bit.

Cant understand why Barney was shy about singing it....AOC is not in any way a hard song to sing.

Then again, to me, New Order is superrior to Joy Division in every single way..except for maybe vocals and lyrics. Barney is not as powerfully expressive in his vocals and lyrics as Ian Curtis was....but Barneys voice and lyrics have a charm all thier own. :)

Of course.

Dont get me wrong.

I LOVE Joy Division. They are one of the best bands ever. Brilliant in every way.

But I think that New Order is even better. Certainly more innovative.

Anyways....

It must have been pretty awesome for Jack to share a stage with his famous Dad, playing some classic New order tunes. :)

Fookin' twat. If you hadn't worked it out, Bernard's voice has changed a lot since he learned how to sing. When they first started writing songs as New Order, they were nearly all in a key that Bernard struggled with, hence the frequent yelping and octave changes mid-verse. In around 1987 he started to learn to sing properly (he'll never be a good singer technically, but he has improved markedly), and he started to find that a lot of the songs from the Low Life era in particular, but also including Age Of Consent, were rather difficult to sing. They tried changing the key on several of them in rehearsals to accommodate his voice, but for some of them it didn't work particularly well. It works fine for Perfect Kiss and LWTUA, but songs like This Time Of Night, Sunrise and Age Of Consent just don't sound right in a key sufficiently different to allow him to sing it properly. As they take it a lot more professionally these days, they'd rather not do something than do it poorly, understandably.

Make sense to you now?

Cheers Jack, don't know what happened there, wrote something, thought I'd pressed cancel, no alcohol consumed either haha! Crackin' performance by the way, keep it up mate, nice to see Hooky's red Yamaha make a reappearance too

Oh yeah, just one more thing, question for Old Monkey, do you remember whether it was John Robie who helped Bernard out with the singing? I just remember reading something to do with one of the band saying don't mess with the way we make music but Robie helped sort Barney out with his voice. Feel free to oorrect me if I'm wrong on that one!

Yes I realised all of that. Thank you for the extra insight. A boy can hope, yes? Who wouldnt be sad at the Order not being able to briong out some of the old calssics because of the key change.
