Monaco play New Order tonight

As I've said in my post on the other thread it was a excellent gig/night with a cracking set from Hooky and Pottsy along with the banter I had with everyone. Shame I can't make Manc v's Cancer but will be up for something eles very soon. A+ Hooky, Pottsy and the face's old/new I met last night Cheers!

Congrats Jack on doing so well and keeping your nerve steady. I can't wait for any audio that finds its way on out... this sounds like a gig to remember, indeed! Lucky, all who were there.

Cant understand why Barney was shy about singing it....AOC is not in any way a hard song to sing.

Then again, to me, New Order is superrior to Joy Division in every single way..except for maybe vocals and lyrics. Barney is not as powerfully expressive in his vocals and lyrics as Ian Curtis was....but Barneys voice and lyrics have a charm all thier own. :)

I LOVE Joy Division. They are one of the best bands ever. Brilliant in every way.

But I think that New Order is even better. Certainly more innovative.

It must have been pretty awesome for Jack to share a stage with his famous Dad, playing some classic New order tunes. :)

Fookin' twat. If you hadn't worked it out, Bernard's voice has changed a lot since he learned how to sing. When they first started writing songs as New Order, they were nearly all in a key that Bernard struggled with, hence the frequent yelping and octave changes mid-verse. In around 1987 he started to learn to sing properly (he'll never be a good singer technically, but he has improved markedly), and he started to find that a lot of the songs from the Low Life era in particular, but also including Age Of Consent, were rather difficult to sing. They tried changing the key on several of them in rehearsals to accommodate his voice, but for some of them it didn't work particularly well. It works fine for Perfect Kiss and LWTUA, but songs like This Time Of Night, Sunrise and Age Of Consent just don't sound right in a key sufficiently different to allow him to sing it properly. As they take it a lot more professionally these days, they'd rather not do something than do it poorly, understandably.

Oh yeah, just one more thing, question for Old Monkey, do you remember whether it was John Robie who helped Bernard out with the singing? I just remember reading something to do with one of the band saying don't mess with the way we make music but Robie helped sort Barney out with his voice. Feel free to oorrect me if I'm wrong on that one!

Yes I realised all of that. Thank you for the extra insight. A boy can hope, yes? Who wouldnt be sad at the Order not being able to briong out some of the old calssics because of the key change.

So gutted i couldn't make this gig and after reading all the reviews etc i feel fecking sick. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll do another gig in the not to distant future. Oh and congrats Jack on your first gig you must of been chuffed... Like Jack i'm dying to hear some audio...
