2001 A NewOrder Odyssey?

Did anyone become a fan when 'Get Ready' was released or are we all of the 'old guard'?

Just wondering by how much, if any, that the NO fanbase is growing (or contracting).

id say its growing..since the last few months i came into the picture..

I joined the good ship in late 2003, I think. Not sure why, they weren't doing much at the time.

I became a fan after Get Ready, but not because of Get Ready. I was born the year Substance and True Faith came out, so i had a few years before I had a clue about anything

I used to listen before, but only after Get Ready I became really a fan. It's not my favourite album nowadays but has 3 top songs for me (Crystal, Close Range and Someone Like you)

I became a fan in 2005, right before Sirens was released

A number of coworkers at the time really liked Crystal and thought that all of NOs stuff would sound like that. This same thing happened after Blade and that infamous mix. You hand people a copy of Substance on CD, and they laugh at you. You let them listen to Rest Of and they suddenly adore NO.

I'd say about ten people I knew at the time became fans, but didn't progress to "I have to see them play live" or "I must buy the earlier records" status. One or two were in the "I liked Get Ready and subsequently bought WFTSC in search of same" camp.

Between the ages of 18 - 40.

I became a fan of them... golly, probably since my kiddiehood. [And considering I was born the year PC&L came out, yeah. That says quite a bit, no?] For me, even though my full-blown devotion for JD and NO blossomed in recent years, I'm not so much a fan of their later stuff [even though WFTSC is my fave album] as I am of their earlier stuff [Movement and PC&L are giving WFTSC a run for it...].

yep, i'm around your age and know what ya mean.

though, i'd always loved new order as a kid, i didnt really start following them, ie., buying all the albums, exploring their back catalogue, collecting everything, until around 1995. its also when i started really gettin ginto all the band i'm still into to this day.

i'd always really had a special thing for Bizarre Love Triangle and Blue Monday, but a lot of their other songs I liked, but didn't even realize it was them until later.. (pre-1995).

it was also around this time that i started writing my own music and taking up the synthesizer and joining a band... and beginning a life long thing in music. in fact, ever since i heard Bizarre Love Triangle and saw the video to Perfect Kiss, which to me, is just pure fucking magic, i knew i wanted to do just that. though, i'd always had a special interest and leaning towards electronic music, but no one quite did it the same way as new order though. BLT happened to be one of the very first songs i ever taught myself to play and to actually perform. it kind of started it all.

so, i got into them at a really odd time. right during their hiatus, and so, this also gave me time to go back and explore their history, but then I kind of drifted away for a couple of years up until 1998, around when the band reunited, i started really getting into the side projects.. electronic, monaco, etc and rekindling my obsession with "regret" lol.. and going nuts with the Republic album. yes, republic, believe it or not.. and then i was back in swing again.

then "get ready" came out... and this was around the time all my other top bands were releasing albums, too (mind you, all known 80s bands, lol), and out of all of them, Get Ready was just a fucking smash. i couldnt believe it. after all these years of being apart, and everything else, BAM.. they still had it. and it was just fucking awesome. yeah, i mean, some may say they have lost a bit of that care-free mystery they had before, but i mean, their older, wiser, and at a different period in their lives where the themes will change, and maybe some things have bene stifled due to record company pressures, but damn.. this band is incapable of putting out shit or anythng mediocre. of course, i like the older stuff better, but damn... no one can do it like new order... and make music like that, and in the wya that they do. its definitely magical. no matter what, you just cant get bored with it and it sticks with you forever. they've since become my favorite band and i havent enjoyed music this much ever with any other band. though.. u2 is close behind, and well new order's taken the #1 post, but.. who cares. (sorry! lol)
