JD remasters?

i skimmed through the forums and didnt see anything about these. if i missed something, i apologize for repeat posting. anyway, MOJO reported that there would be remastered CD and LP editions of UP, closer, and still, all with bonus live material. HMV had the release date listed as 3/26, but when i went to order them on 3/26, it got moved to 9/10. does anyone have any info about these that's more concrete? i'd love to know who's releasing them, what the bonus tracks might be, how limited the vinyl is, etc etc.

Suffice to say that remastered versions of Unknown Pleasures, Closer and Still will be available later this year, complete with bonus material of some live performance recordings. Precisely when has yet to be determined!

The live recordings are from the master copies of some of the well-known bootlegs, nothing that has been hidden away for the last 27 years. Think Feb 1980 to get you in the frame.....

Weren't the tracks on the box set remastered? Are these new remasters or basically the same thing?

I'm curious to know if there's anything for people who have Preston, Les Bains Douches, etc., too.

The box set was remastered, and I have to say were done excellently. I really don't see the need to remaster them again just a few years later.

sounds like the lyceum,, though some of those songs were on the boxed set. you can tell the differnce between the boot and b.s.

at a risk why don't the get them done in 5.1 for a dvd

depeche mode did it and it made some old albums sound amazing - i heard speak and spell [their 1st one] described as a thing of beauty

fair point - a shame if NO don't cos it would be amazing to hear in 5.1 glory just what a wonderful thing the JD stuff was

Quite simple really... the boxset is pricy, it's easier to convince people to buy 1 CD instead.

I don't think I ever saw Heart & Soul in a store....

Heart & Soul was/is regularly stocked throughout New England. Tower had it; Newbury Comics is reliable in that department.

I only ever saw H&S in my local record shop, and that's cos I ordered it a few weeks previous to come direct from UK. It was well worth the money for me then, seeing as I only had stock releases previous. Dunno if I'd shell out the same unless something really awe-inspiring was included or improved.

Really would be a nice boost for the younger sales, though. Still tends to be enough fans buying into JD stuff, even if it is only a phase they seem to be going through.

That wasn't my point. Sure, reissue the albums seperately again, but why not just use the remastered recordings made for 'Heart & Soul'? Why remaster them again when the versions created for 'Heart & Soul' sound excellent.

well (re)mastering is something that is subject to fashion rather than a definitive thing. The current fashion is for hard limiting in this iPod driven world (louder = better).

H&S was done 8 or so years ago which is a long time in this sort of field.
