A song that could be Bernard's Autobiography?

I feel like Regret must be pretty autobiographical. Most of the lyrics on Technique, when they're not tongue in cheek, seem more personal, or rather, more precise about personal stuff, than on previous records.

I agree about Technique. I think I read somewhere that Love Less had somethnig to do with his divorce, though some of the other songs seem to be tinged by that as well.
Would Barney ever endorse one? It would be a fascinating read. So would Hookys, Gillians, Steves or Phils (to a lesser degree).
I love the way they can never agree on historic events that involved the band. Its like a mate of mine who manipulates the events of piss ups, etc to show him in a better light. Or distorts the truth to put it another way.

You don't authorise autobiographies, you write them!

Oops.Sorry I failed to make the connection. Isnt Close Range about a footballer (see also Player In The League and Like No Other) who needs to mend his ways? Close Range referencing a football term and "playing in the park" and "by 4 o'clock you were pretty hot" also football relating.
I always thought Barney hung out with one or two footballers or maybe just bumped into them at clubs (maybe Lee Sharpe or Gazza?). Whoever, theyve provided some lyrical inspiration.

As for deleting threads where several people have posted a thread on precisely the same topic, that has always been the case and has always been practised by every moderator. If you don't like it, may I respectfully suggest you try somewhere like Barney's Angels, Hooky's Angels, Missy's Missteries or suchlike instead.

Great lyrics. Its a crying shame the production and chorus lets this song down. It could have been fantastic rather than good.

Dear Barney... The man has always said he didn't really know from where words were coming whil he was writing lyrics for NO. But if Ian Lyrics were introspective and metaphoric , i wouldn' say it's the same situation with barney's. Things are more "as it is when / just like it was". Things are more said in a direct style . I don't find any poetry in Barney's songs but, most of the times, facts or moods everyone can feel in his own life... I would agree with Old Monkey when he says "Close range" seems an autobiographical song. But the sang , as well, can be the autobiography of anybody . I found things that happened in mine, too, when i first heard this song . But , anyway, it's a good choice. In the old days, i used to think Temptation could be autobiographical, coz Barney seemed really concerned with the song...
But in CLOSE RANGE Barney is singing to someone else:
"You gotta pull yourself together man"
He could really still be singing for him, but Close Range almost sounds more like he wrote it for a friend. HEY NOW WHAT YA DOING is kind of similar, I think.
I think Republic is a very autobiographical album. SPECIAL sounds like a lot of personal thought went into the lyrics to that one.
