Split?

Well, I hope its not true on the split. Hope they are just taking a break and will do another album in a year or 2. Its been 27 years together plus more if you count Joy Division. They have been together too long to say we have split up for good. I won't believe that. I believed that the first time around in 2001 and found them together again. I was the happiest person alive when they got back together. Could not see them in concert because I moved to the wrong state. The 80's and 90's was living in southern california and every concert they played there, I was there.

all bands split one day. ...For me no more NO album and no more live set to see will be, obviously,a real lack. Something like a "page tournée" ( a back page? I'm not sure with my translation:\ohwell: ). But what can we hope today ? They are middle aged men in a world ( the rock music world) where most of the bands are twenty/Thrirty years old... They have done their best, and their time is probably now gone for rock music...How can we ask them to be creative any longer, and interested in doing live sets???? Hooky seems to be bored by this "split"- or seems to be the most bored by the idea. But, well, did Barney say something about this ?And Hooky, as we all know, speaks a lot...C'est un bavard. Too much, maybe?

Iv been a fan since '81 when blue monday just came out

and i was hooked (excuse the pun)

waited 25 years before i saw them live (different things happening around time of tours and missed them)

and its just by luck i got to see them last november in the carling acadamy in glasgow

dont think i could have coped if i hadnt saw them b4 they split!!!!!

as they walked off stage in 93 i realy thought that was it and realy itwas ,,, the end of phase 1 of there career,, they made great music ,,played some ace stuff live off the cuff maybe well do an encore maybe we wont,,

and had a good time. made little money as it all got sucked into the hac and factory,

phase 2 starts in 98 with the gigs and the comeback gig to end em all at reading,, gillian leaves (what happenend to the brotherhood, if one member leaves we will change our name etc)

they played well live with good sound,, albums were o.k. some tracks subliminally good.

they made money.. end off.

After the last date of the last tour there was a "No We are not breaking up" To which I thought "Riggghhhhhht-they are"

In 1993, it was a result of too many drugs too much stress from The Hac and factory imploding plus an insane sense of burnout-they had not been together since Bernard's intention to form Electronic.

New Order has always been about Steve and Gillian's relationship along with the Barney-Hooky dynamic. Those two guys seem the ultimate love-hate deal. It is what made them creative but cause them to blow apart. That and well the two post-reformation albums did not sell all that great and were not really all that memorable.

I have heard that being in a band is like all the stress of being in a relationship without any of the sex or sexual release. Rob Gretton called them on the carpet back in 1998 and said if you devoted any of the energy to New Order that you devoted to your side projects, you would have been bigger than U2.

Ironic actually-Happy Mondays are back together. Same with ACR and well Vini Reilly is still floating somewhere. All the other main line Factory backs are getting back together.

"Control" is set to bow at Cannes May 17 and this year is the 30th anniversary of JD. I saw in "Q" or somewhat that their entire catalog is being digitally remastered!! This should be a moment of great triumph.

I figure it is a breakup like 1993-no big announcement-just a drifting apart. Just do us a favor Barney, say your side of it-a definitive statement so we can all go on.

I guess I can obsess over Doves or the new Megadeth cd or Rufus Wainwright's new one (my tastes are wide ranging) Just it won't be the same.

I believe "never say never". Sure not a good atmosphere between Barney & Hooky,but it's taken them years to start playing Joy Division songs together again. I can't see them wanting to share their joy of playing,with other artists. Hooky will have Freebass and possibly even Monaco again,Barney and his Alex James collab,but in then end of the day,the only artists who can play Joy Division is................err............JOY DIVISION.

Either way, what does it matter if they're 'officialy' together or split? They can be together as a group and not do anything for years or be split and decide to do something again at a moment's notice.

I hope they release more new stuff though. Get Ready was quite good and WFTSC is EXCELLENT. By any standard they're still putting out good material. Moaning about how they're not breaking new ground and achieving blockbuster sales is just....

What New Order have done will always stand eternal. We need no more, not now anyway. A noted historian recently commented on how multitalented people in this modern, present day era are. We are equally musicians, artist, writers, parents, philosophers, inventors, chefs, environmentalists, pet rescuers, athletes, kids, educators, directors, administrators, and then some. Why would we ever limit ourselves and than require and/or demand some same definitive direction from them? Are they not they the best judge for themselves? Look, this is what reasonable people would do: Announce you are splitting up BUT before hanging everything up, you are going to go an tour the 5 or 6 most important cities in the WOrld as a farewell to the fans. That's what my fave band did in 1997, Soda Stereo and I will always be thankful for that. I spent $1,000 to see them in one of the 5 cities they played on their last tour. NO could play Manchester, Tokyo, New York, Madrid, Paris and Rio and get paid a million dollars a show and call it quits. Come on Tony Wilson, you can make it happen. Let's not leave this legacy behind without a big arse BANG!!! And they could play 2 hours of JD music and NO music and Electronic music and Monaco and etc, etc.

I guess I have to come to grips with the reality that, this IS the end. And I never even got to see them live. It's a sad thing, really.

This was the band that set up the soundtrack to my everyday life. The band I fell in love with, musically. The band whose drummer I had a hilarious childhood crush on. The band with an awesome tough punk chick for a guitarist/keyboardist. The band with an interestingly dark past, whose music from their past strong enough to revive me in my darkest hour [when I almost actually killed myself]. The band that taught me how the fuck to dance like it's nobody else's business but mine [no attending the Bernard Sumner/Ian Curtis School of Dance necessary]. The band that brought me the most glorious 9 minutes of dancing imaginable [not to mention the best video ever for that song]. The band that didn't give a fuck. The band with a very odd sense of humor. The band whose lead singer, in 1981, pioneered the horizontal guitar-playing position. The band that had Gillian hang out in a tub with a nekkid Tony Wilson. The band that...

I admit I truly don't want them to break up. But only one member of the band (we all know who) says something of the like, and it seems that everyone on here is acting like it's already been confirmed by everyone in the band.

I would rather them take a break, than break-up for good.

Now he has a MySpace page (and he, or someone for him, is regularly logging in) he might take a minute to post on the blog to put a final word to the speculations... but maybe this is how he likes it, adds to the myth... Any rumours about the reasons behind the split? Tim, what did he tell you exactly? If you think you can refer of course... He told you it's over and this is what makes me believe it, but has he told you why? This isn't the year it was meant to happen, with Control, 30th anniversary etc. I would have understood next year, but them splitting now makes me think something wrong has happened... And why is Bernard so damn silent? What is he doing now? I've heard something with Alex James? What exactly, a new band? Jack, anything you can explain? Thanks.
