Split or not? Total confusion!

It had to happen. I leave the UK for seven days believing that the Order have called it a day after reading what the Hookmeister said on his (poorly punctuated and spelt) blog and then what happens? I arrive back, pull up this here site and it's saying they haven't split after all!

Now I know the Order are given to circulating false info occasionally but what's it to be, chaps? Are they to be referred to in the past tense or not?

Actually, the symbolism of today - 18.5.07 - could be interesting: continued life on an anniversary known for the end of a life. As for this BULL about "Hooky being free to leave" - the man is New Order for Gretton's sake! The idea of there being a new line-up without him is unthinkable.

I can't wait to see the photos of the 'band' together looking all awkward.. I mean.. they should be doing some sort of promo or interview for the Cannes premiere, no? Smile on the red carpet sort of thing? Otherwise it'd be another wasted opportunity to promote themselves for their retirement funds.

I've said it on this board already, I'll say it again; lots of band survive and do very well and make great music after losing what is percieved to be the glue/missing link/major part of the ensemble.

Some groups go into the toilet when they lose a major member and I am going to give New Order my confidence that if, IF without Peter Hook, they can still be great.

Hopefully they can work things out though and this is all just some old people bickering they like always do.

It's true, many bands carry on rather well without a key founding member, like Depeche Mode or Pink Floyd, but not at this point of their career... it was just a matter of one last album and it would have ended anyway, they're not really the kind of cartoon rockers like The Rolling Stones to walk on stage at 60... actually I think it's fun to see the Stones still playing at their age, but New Order wouldn't be cool at all at 60... If Bernard, Steve and Phil want to keep on working together I'm happy, they can do great music, we can have a sort of new Electronic. But they must not dare to use the New Order name, it's too holy, they'd get really burnt. If they do music with a new name critics will judge with curiosity. If they do music without Hooky as New Order they will be slaughtered. And rightly so. Anyway, who's in Cannes? I don't think Hooky's with the rest of the band, is he?!

Uh oh. What if it turns into one of those ugly rock disputes over the band name? The next decade could be way worse than a bad album -- Peter tours with a band including Pottsy as "The Real New Order" while Bernard and Stephen make occassional festival appearances as "The JD/NO Experience" witha revolving slate of aging guest stars and Kevin Hedwik ends up with rights to the New Order name thanks to some screwup and holds a reality show to find a band, a la INXS?

Actually, the trio [yes, Barney and Hooky and Steve] ARE in Cannes. They were there last night for the movie 'Control'.
