CLUBBERS and historians are joining forces to resurrect one of the country's most famous venues - for one night only.
For 15 years the Hacienda nightclub was renowned around the world as the spiritual home of rave culture and the Manchester music scene.
Now, on the 25th anniversary of the club opening night, former patrons and historians from the Museum of Science and Industry are staging a one-night revival.
The venue on Whitworth Street West was founded by music producer Rob Gretton and Factory Records impresario Anthony Wilson using profits from the success of band New Order.
It once hosted top DJs and pop acts such as Madonna, but has now been demolished and replaced by luxury flats.
Memories Clubbers who visited the venue are being urged to share their memories and any memorabilia at a reminiscence event at the Dry bar on Oldham Street next Monday. Fans will then be transported to a film night Ghosts of the Hacienda at One Central Street featuring footage of club action shot during its heyday.
The accounts of clubbers will be recorded and accompany the museum's archive collection of Hacienda material, which includes flyers and the original architect's plans for the nightclub.
Jan Hargreaves, from the museum, said: "The Hacienda is an important part of Manchester's identity and a focal point for the `Madchester' scene.
"We have a number of items from the club but we wanted to capture some of the essence about why it was such a success. The best way is to speak to people who were part of it and add their voices to our collections."
The venue, which opened in 1982 and closed in 1997, featured in the film 24 Hour Party People which told the story of the Manchester music scene.
