how many of you guys ever request songs (NO or any other group) on the radio or tv (whatever music channel you have there)? i know you all are a bit cyanical about radio and music video stations, but any successful attempts to get your favourite song played?

i used to bug the guys at my favourite college radio show to play sonic youth, yo la tengo, the fall and stereolab nearly every week! they pratically recognized my voice everytime i called! i've never requested a song on a commercial radio station though. i've requested the blake babies' temptation eyes on the wedge (my favourite video show) on much music...i was depressed that i couldn't go see Juliana hatfield in concert, so i requested the song to cheer me up. they played it and felt bad for me.

I've never made any requests but I've heard others request NO songs on the radio a few times.

well...I used to call in to our beloved KDGE...the edge, and request New Order, Electronic, Revenge....

but when I realized that they only fulfilled my requests about 3% of the time, I gave up...I really couldn't tell you the last time I called and requested a song...

I bombarded two local radio stations with e-mails trying to get them to support the release of Get Ready...and that was also met with a resounding thud...

I guess not a soul in Dallas cares about our beloved Order (well, other than me).

Errrr yes, it was fookin' embarrassing as well.......

When I was 16 I used to listen to David Jensen and Peel on Radio 1 most nights, and Jensen had this "Three of the Best" feature. For some strange reason that only teenagers can come up with, I wrote to him requesting Joy Division be the featured band. Unfortunately (1) I put my phone number on the letter. Didn't hear anything back, thought "fuck it". Come the Summer of 83, I'd done my 'O'levels and was waiting for the results. Went fishing most nights rather than staying in listening to the radio, with PC&L on my walkman. A fateful Wednesday in June 1983, my father suddenly arrived on the lakeside some 15 miles from where I lived with a radio..... ....."you're on Radio 1 !!"

(Me) "Fook off I am".

Turns out that Jensen had decided to do JD after all, and had rung my house at about 6pm to chat to me, getting me to choose the three songs I wanted played. Of course I was out, so he got to talk to my mother about school and all kinds of shit you really really really don't want going out on Radio 1. I'll never know just why or understand. Anyway, Jensen played LWTUA, Atmosphere and Disorder, as opposed to my choices Dead Souls, Decades and Wilderness.

At least I've still got 14 mins and 30 secs of fame left :)

I usually pester the 'alternative shows' on the local college station to play JD (can't play New Order on account of their "no Top 40 or name bands" policy) but I usually just hassle my coz about doing one JD song every other show when he's doing one on the station. We were able to get away with playing New Order one day, though. The Someone Like You vinyl single was in the booth, and my coz just happened to have his copy of the Crystal single with him, so we got away with doing a double shot of New Order. The Someone Like You single was taken out of rotation a few weeks later, but we played it a few more times before then.

I requested Crystal once at an "all request lunch hour" and they told me "NO" I had to request a song from the top 40 because they had to fill their quotta. I asked them if this was an all request lunch hour? they said yea but the answer is still no. So that is when I realised that New Order didn't have a hope in hell.

Used to bug the DJ's at KBVR in Corvallis back in 82/83 to play Temptation at least once a day, and they would unfailingly oblige us. It just wouldn't have been a good day until we heard it pulsing from the radio.

Well, at dances, I always request Blue Monday, and they usually play it. I have requested Crystal, Regret, World (The Price Of Love) and Spooky on MuchMusic, they played World. I've had the radio play Crystal. I also had The Perfect Kiss (covered by Icon) played at a rave. That was crazy.

they played world on much music? was this recent? they've turned the request show into some stupid variety show...i don't think they do requests anymore.

i'm thinking of requesting a NO song on either much or muchmoremusic. if it's MMM, it's gonna be one their older 80s songs. perfect kiss? i doubt they'll play that, it's so long. i have blue monday, BLT and crystal on tape already...so maybe TBTHG. who knows.

I never phone in to radio stations or music channels. I can't get through on the radio and the music channel numbers are too expensive (they're all about 75p a minute now!). Saying that, though, I was at an 80s night at a club not long ago and I requested Blue Monday. Got it played 2 minutes later, which was pretty cool. :) Not sure if anyone else in the place really cared, though. Oh well.

Everytime I ask a station to Play new order, they always play either BLT, True Faith or Blue Monday. Even if I ask for something like Ceremony, they still play one of those three.
