Major - what did i tell you about believing anything the fooking NME write....? It does, after all, say "planning to release" rather than "definitely, unfailingly, genuinely release"... You got to remember they wrote the same thing in 1998, then 1999. Those same immortal words..."New Order are planning to release..." By "planning to" surely you must know that it usually involves several abortive attempts at getting Peter fooking Saville off his big fat yuppie arse to come up with half-a-concept for the outer packaging - even IF hypothetically the box set does comprise the miniaturised 12" sleeve covers that I and a few others suggested so hopefully here!
So, fook the NME...what do they know about anything these days, unless it's involving overhyped jumped up little scuzzy guitar rockers and bad hair....just to satiate their desperately elitist "cool-factor"-dependent egos?

Aussies, take note....I got Evil Dust on a $9.95 compilation CD called MACHINES & NOISE...features The Shamen, Skinny Puppy, Chris & Cosey, etc... as well....and the CD cover is great looking too. ( very Bauhaus kinda photo...)
After much contemplation can NEW ORDER put this RECYCLE stuff in a very large ,awkward size box and only sell it at WOOLWORTHS.I got barred way back in the 80s for destroying all their tape displays when those lovely Cassette thingies came out.Never did buy one after that. Is there any way in which the Order can release this on any other label than London 'we fcuk everything we touch up' records?. Surely they've fulfilled their contracts with the clueless losers by now? Otherwise expect something as bland as all the singles with a new 'exclusive' trance by numbers remix or the like
Brother has just reminded me that Depeche Mode put out their singles over THREE chronologically-ordered boxes, each retailing at around £30. They looked like large fag packets. Cocteaus did the same thing (just one fag packet this time) when they ditched 4AD (or is that t'other way round?).
So perhaps we're looking at a series of FAC packets. Boom-Boom.
You know, Martin, there really isn't any reason whatsoever why this approach (the ONLY one IMHO) shouldn't be the one to go for. The big snag of course is the stunning lack of any foresight or imagination [or just plain common sense] on the bastard record companies part. And THAT is obviously going to make all the difference between the fans getting the box set of singles that they should deserve and being fobbed off and shortchanged by some pathetic half-arsed "will this do?" measure.... and I've a horrible sneaking suspicion which option they will, as ever, settle for....all in the name of economy of course...

This project will be a pain to do, this is why it took so long.
When I did the New Order Anthologies, it took me 3 CD-ROMS full to contain all non-album tracks, ok there was some live material, but there was not dub on this.
MP3 is taking 10 times less, so this means, there is material to fill 30 CDs, 37 hours of material, and that was before Get Ready, so we sure have now 42 hours of material (still no album tracks).. this is an impossible project.
What can they do? They CAN'T do the release of everything unless they try to do something like Depeche Mode did back around 1992.. release more than 1 box set.
We sure would like to finally have everything in the same box, but is that possible?
My idea would be to release several box set in time, one for each album...
So you would have
Movement: Ceremony, Procession, Everthing's Gone Green, Temptation PC&L: Blue Monday, Confusion, Thieves Like Us, Murder Low-Life: Perfect Kiss, Subculture, Shellshock Brotherhood: BLT, State of the Nation, True Faith, TBTHOG Technique: Blue Monday 88, Fine Time, Round & Round, Run Republic: Regret, RIAD, World, Spooky Get Ready: True Faith 2001, Crystal, 60 MAH, Someone Like You, Here To Stay
All those box set would include all b-sides and all remixes of those songs (and other remixes from that area) plus a bonus disk of demos and live performances maybe, if available. And a DVD with all the videos for those song, or maybe a full show of that era.
So the demo disk would contain things such as "Prime 586", the original Let's Go and the long version of Elegia.. I'm sure if they search in the ashes of Factory they can find stuff unless they sold it to promote the Hacienda. They can put songs like The Happy One, Theme and Hommage on that disk too.
This would mean, 7 boxes in that box set, that would be a very painful project, they could release one box per month.. who knows!
This would be a complete anthology, there is no doubt about it. Every New Order fan would buy it, it would contain a book with all Saville artwork for that area and the comments of the band, and it would be very good to have the LYRICS too, even if it wouldn't be New Order if they were published!
The "problem" with such a project is, this will only attrack hard core fans.. nobody would buy such a box set without knowing New Order.. so this would cost a lot of $$$ to produce.
What I would SURE like to see is New Order being the first artist to release an MP3 compilation, why don't they release ALL OF THIS into mp3 or equivalent on CD-ROMS or DVD.. all damned DVD players our days play MP3 CDs.. so we would naviguate into the DVD and see the artwork and pick the song, that would be very original and quite impressive.. but that sure won't happen, Warner releasing MP3. I don't think so!
SPOTNICK you have done your homework on this subject.It is such a BIG AMOUNT of records to release and no matter what they fetch out they will be some like myself that will still not quite be satisfied.If you ark back to the early days a lot of us wanted ALL FACTORY records and the pointless memorabilia that rumour had it existed.Still i agree that this as to be well thought out.BOWIE had a brilliant collection released as a "SOUND AND VISION" boxset and booklet.The PET SHOP BOYS tried hard with the alternate CDS of almost every album.I am sure that someone though could do a far better job than either of these.Just a note though if there is anything you want on CD or minidisc that you can think of i would willingly help you out.Just a thought..... I was just going to mention those PSB re-releases..something similar to this in one box would be decent.
Anyway, a short snippet from the music pages at Teletext informs me that the bands PR say's that it will possibly be released in NOvember, thought the box-set is still not definitely going ahead yet. The PR also didn't know what was planned to go on it. The journalist here's on pretty good terms with the PR so it's a bit more than rumour.
Mind you, we knew all that info already anyway didnt we?
I would be more interested in a compilation of live shows and rare, hard to find demos and the like than a by-the-hits-retrospective, though that would have to factor into it. I guess something where they leave the remixes behind in favor of the original versions, as well as a comprehensive overview of their history up until now. For a live disc (or two), it would be great to have them go back to the earliest gig with a recording of it, and to maybe feature 2 or 3 standout performances, 3 to 6 songs each depending on the sound quality. Also, two cds of the original singles (paired with their respective b-sides) would satisfy me, with maybe a disc or two left over for some album tracks that don't normally get included on 'best ofs'. Would that be unreasonable?
It seems as you look through the back catalogue, or online stores, most of the recent New Order material (Republic/Get Ready/The Best Of) is still fairly easy to obtain on CD. I think most of us die-hard fans already have umpteen CD singles with the various (and mostly pointless) dance remixes of recent stuff anyway. At last count, I had somethign like 101 New Order single releases of various formats! I think the main things most of us are after is the stuff which only came out on vinyl, in particular the very early seven inch and twelve inch mixes (not the ones that were chopped for Substance). I would get bored to tedium hear the 90 minutes' worth of Crystal remixes all over again as part of a boxed set when I've already got 'em last year on CD. I'd sooner get onto CD tracks like the New Order mix of Vicious Circle which is currently only available on cassette. I'd forgive 'em if they don't include every last dance remix of the recent stuff.
What would be more worthwhile would be to get original or demo versions of some of the tunes, or tracks such as the edited single version of 'Vanishing Point' which nearly got released in 1994 until 'True Faith-94' took its place.
Incidentally, has anyone noticed that the UK 12" of 'Here To Stay' has a different version of 'Crystal' on there, which "rocks out" a bit more at the end. Wonder if that's the original version?
I tracked down that American Reprise '20 Years of New Order' album, and it has a different (and presumably earlier) version of '60 Miles An Hour' on. It's a bit more stripped down, with lots of stops and starts in the production, but I kind of like it more than the album version as it has a "rawer" edge to it, with a more experimental feel. Well worth getting hold of.

skip the remixes, if i were to buy the box set, i would just want the unreleased and hard to find ORIGINAL tracks.
To make the Recycle project more profitable for the record company, why don't they follow Mute's example with the Depeche Mode reissued singles, and make each individual single available seperately (while remaining chart ineligable, of course) at the price of a normal CD single, then sell one or two boxed sets including them all at a lower price per unit. That way us die-harders get the whole lot, and casual fans can obtain their favourite New Order singles without having to fork out tons of dosh. Gotta be worth it if they're going to all the trouble of remastering/repackaging the whole back catalogue anyway surely?

Yeah, I remember that, and I was pissed because I had just bought all of the Depeche Mode singles, and bam.. they release new ones.
I would be an idea, but things like Shellshock, what would be the point? Ok it's never been on CD, but that would give only 2 songs...!!
Unless they feel the "blanks" with rare and demo stuff...
I've been REALLY bored this afternoon, getting used to my four month break from university, and am working on a draft track listing for this infamous box set... Bear with me...

It's done. It's a great concept, and I KNOW it's very, very sad, but if anyone wants to rad what I reckon would be the definitive tracklisting for 'Recycled' (especially any London Record execs reading) go to the link below to download or view the Word document which lists something like 191 tracks which could make up a nice 18 CD set.
Even though it'd be nice to have each single release on one CD, I think it would be wasteful of resources, and also more expensive for us lot to buy, so I've combined some singles onto one disc in some cases, where the number of tracks allows. Obviously, as time goes on, New Order had a larger amount of remixes, so it's only really the first few singles that are "shared" on one disc anyway.
There's still a few spare 20-30 minutes at the end of some discs, so i'd like to hear anyone's suggestions as to what to fit on there, whether live outtakes ('Electronic Ecstasy' or '316', anyone?), or perhaps there's some decent remixes or edits which I've missed out.
I think an 18 disc set would be just about right (it weighs in at about 18 hours by my reckoning) - and I'd insist that all the original artwork images from the singles feature in one way or another on the packaging. I also think the final disc idea is a winner too, if they can get hold of the BBC master tapes for the recent sessions. Note the inclusion of the 'Salvation' movie tracks on the 'Touched By the Hand Of God' disc also.
The way the tracks fell into place allowed me to include all of those God-awful Sly and Robbie remixes of 'Ruined', but love 'em or hate 'em, at least it'll please completists!
Not all the mixes of every song are included, but anything not easily obtainable on CD has been bunged on there somewhere. Maybe I should do this for a living...
