Sorry for the late reply. I just read the thread now. Anyway...

I love the song! The 2002 single sleeve has been my wallpaper in my PC and mobile for the longest time! Why? It covers two of my passions, New Order and football!

The English noolers here are right. You have to love football (or what you call soccer) to understand how much that song means to the country.

I love football, eventhough I came from a country wherein football is not popular. So whenever international competitions are out, like the world cup, euro qualifiers, etc., as an "outside" fan (my country is one of the worst in terms of international football), my love for this song and of course for New Order, I always cheer for England. Even though I know there are nations who are stronger than England, and more popular superstars (my favorite football players are R. Carlos of Brazil-Madrid and A. Shevy of Ukraine-Chelsea formerly of Milan). Whenever England is up against these countries/clubs, thanks to the song and of course, the artist, I always cheer for England, and... the English Premier League as well.

About calling it a strange move, I call it a brilliant and lucky one. You have to understand that even the band loves the sport.

"We're singing for England... We're playing this song..."

And everytime I watch England in international competitions, win or lose, I normally play the song after watching England perform. There's something magical about this song.

And lastly, about the music video (the original 1990). In my opinion, its not that bad nor good as well. I don't know. I think it would be better if they just showed goals, goals, goals, and nothing but goals of England. Not the band singing with the players. It's just my opinion.
