(doesnt have to be new order) could be anyone musicians, footballers, politicians or pornstars etc were you speechless, awestruck or plain dissapointed? did you have an interesting chat or did you stand and stammer and shake and spout a load of crap?

Once met Lou Macari at Stoke station. Train was late, he was pissed off. He offered me a chip, though......

As a rule of thumb, I think its best never to meet your heroes: you'll either (a) make a twat of yourself, (b) they'll let you down, or (c) a combination of the two.

On the other hand, I'd like to go drinking with Rockin' Rocket Mick Gregson. You at Finsbury/Mancland, fella?

After The MEN show in December '98 me and my pal Duncan retired to the resident's bar of the Malamaison where we were staying. It started to slowly fill up with what were clearly record company/media types and then at about 4.30 AM with the Hookmeister and a few other blokes.

The band were apparently staying there which I found strange considering it was a hometown gig. Didn't say anything to him though. I was more than a bit fucked up at the time!

I met the Queen once, when I was about 10. She's not my hero though.

I met Ste williams from VOY, but no-one has heard of them.

Carlton Palmer got on a train next to me last week.

My girlfriend has met richard whiteley.

So, no-one famous then.

I once lit Hooky's Marlboro menthol (can't remember if it was a light, or full flavored)...

the next night I met a seriously intoxicated Barney, and a rather worried Gillian (she couldn't find Stevie)...

and at a Revenge gig, my buddy got whacked in the head by Hooky, and then got his hand stomped on by the same man...

Guess we've been lucky...

I've also met the band Consolidated...pobably not well known, but they were one of my faves...oh..and I've met Moby twice, but we know what you guys think of him...and Front 242...and several players for the Dallas Stars Hockey Club (just because I worked for them though)...

Sarah Cox trod on my foot about a couple of months ago. And she had heels on. she's really short as it happens. Again not a hero though. Any Celtic fans...I've also played cricket against Johnathon Gould...and he's a complete loser.

Friendly bit of banter which he didn't really warm to. Nothing in it really. No harm was intended.

Quite a few as it happens...over the years..... people like all of Madness (finally - at Madstock 1992 - got all my albums - and even one of my Perry shirts!! - signed, gush gush), Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto of Fugazi (true geezers both of them), Henry Rollins once at a London gig, Paul Simonon once - another geezer!....and Billy Bragg of course! And also Black Francis and Kim Deal of Pixies (couldn't find Dave or Joey) when they played Newcastle Riverside in 1989....how cool was Kim? Well what do you think??..... Wish I could have met Nosferatu though - but that sadly was well before my time. :D

i've met kristin hersh at a radio station. very nice and she didn't disapoint at all. she told us a funny story about a video shoot though. a fan bought milk and chocolate cake for her and she left with the milk to give to her kids (left the cake behind though...bad for your kids i guess)

Jimmy Saville once gave me a lift home from work in his car, he was wearing his usual bright shell suit and dark sunglasses which was strange to say it was dark outside and made me a bit nervous about whether he could actually see to drive or not. I don't suppose he is much of a hero though because he is friends with my dad but is still a great bloke and I always wanted to sit in his chair from Jim'll Fix It and play with that robotic arm!

i once had barney guitar pick tossed at me by him in 1986 in pittsburgh. i still have that. i meet hooky at the felt forum in NYC. He had his hair all slicked back and he was subdued, but talked about ckicks and who was there and how he could meet em. I also have met other famous people including the very cool Jonathan Demme who directed the perfect kiss video. now there is a class act! what a cool man.

first semi-hero i ever met was all of James (Seven-era lineup)...i was quite young at the time and had no idea whatsoever what to say! i was fine for the rest of the group, but Tim's voice is so unbelievably gorgeous...so, er, i said the dumbest thing ever. just sorta squeaked out "you know, you have the most amazing voice ever."

he signed my cassette insert with his name followed by "Yes, I know." :o  god. what an idiot i was.

met all of Bis a few different times (have a photo of me with them the second time), Miki and Phil out of Lush (Lovelife-era lineup, before everything happened with Chris, obviously), James Iha (while walking his dog) & D'Arcy out of Smashing Pumpkins, Louise Post out of Veruca Salt (she used to work at my favourite record store, hanging posters, actually...and met her before VS put out their first single!), Henry Rollins, err...and i nearly sent Tim Rutili of Red Red Meat careening into his speaker stack whilst sitting on the floor in front of the "stage" at a venue waiting for them go to onstage... :o really didn't intend to (he didn't see my foot), though it would've been interesting to see what would've happened if indeed he'd gone through it... :evil4:

there's actually probably more, but i have no memory for anything. it's very sad. you hit 22 and everything just goes completely downhill... ;)

now where's my Geritol...?
