He was also asked in an indirectly-direct way if New Order were splitting up at the end of the interview: he said words to the effect that it was ridiculous people in their late 40s and 50s being in a pop group and that it shouldn't really be allowed. He then added that he was referring to performing as opposed to making music per se, as he said he wasn't qualified/didn't want to do anything else (than make music).

This being Steve, his final words in the interview were "only joking". He may well have been referring to the entire conversation.

That's a great little story from Stephen Morris.

It's nice to hear him talking about his band instead of when you read stories about New Order and Joy Division from the outside. He really makes it personal. Very touching.

Thanks for the post!

He really does seem a nice chap doesn't he?

I didn't think any of the band would admit that they went to grammer school!

This is the first mention I've seen of the specific condition afflicting Steven and Gillian's daughter. Glad to see she's doing better, it sounds like a nightmare for any parent.

I thought I already replied to this - but it must have disappeared into the ether.

Great interview anyway- really good to hear the audio too, rather than just the written - gives a far better feel for the interview.

Also glad that their daughter's illness is under control (lovely photo of him & kids BTW) & looking forward to his myspace appearance.

He said that one of his daughters was helping him with myspace (happens to all of us eventually - he's been at the forefront of computer innovation - musically - for a generation; but now he has to get his kids to show him how to work that new-fangled internet-thingie.)

Ahh, good young'uns Tilly and Gracie, the next generation of innovative computechies.

You know they're gonna be a trip and a half when they teach their darlin' dad how to fight and finagle a MySpace.
