Okay guys, another attempt at a review. Sorry, not as in depth as the previous one, but I can't remember my exact words before... Please take everything in the spirit it's meant - I can love something and still be very critical, still doesn't mean I think it's bad or that I could do better:
Even without the bass, this would have still sounded like a 'Revenge' track. Great. The bass makes it for me in as much as it adds 'that sound', but the vocals are really excellent. At the start, I thought 'Oh no - In Between Days' - at the end, I thought 'Thank God, Seven Reasons'. It could do with some cool production/engineering - Cambo could give you some tips. Please bear in mind that I prefer my music heavier and more guitar orientated! This was definitely the track I liked best and will certainly listen to many more times.
Go Away
Backing track very New Order. Could even sing, 'That's the only thing about it, I can't fond anyone to doubt it' as a backing. It's very listenable, but could do with that extra 'something'. Again, for me, needs more attack and bite to it, but nowt wrong with it as a song.
Gunfight
Hmmm... LOVE the music - rather NIN which isn't a bad thing. If you're going to keep the current vocals, whisper them or give them the real 'edge' on some way that they crave. I'd really have to think about that. It may well be the mix, but it just doesn't sound quite 'spot on'. My own take would be to extend the story, put a VERY heavy dance beat to it and add samples from 'High Noon'. The story idea is nice and an interesting theme, but it needs to be conveyed in a different way. It needs to be harder, more punch in the nuts than punch in the guts. Needs to sound dirtier.
Great music idea though.
Moodswing
Oi, look, over there - isn't that Kraftwerk in the corner?!
Believe me, that's not a bad thing. However, as it goes on, it sounds more like one of the BeMusic interludes, along the lines of 'The Happy One'. Still not a bad thing, but this one really could do with some of the vocal style of '10 Years Ago'. Shame that bass sound makes such a late appearance. Make the whole thing longer, it has the stamina to cope with it and needs to have the bass taking it from its current position and elevating it over another minute or so. As it is, it's 'nice' but doesn't really go anywhere.
In all, really good stuff that I'd happily add to iTunes (oh, and have done), but more interesting for me is that I think I'd really enjoy a late night production session with the four tracks, a good engineer and a few beers. Oh, the band could stay too - I'm certainly not Martin Hannet.
Thanks for that, I really enjoyed an hour of listening. Yes. An hour - I really DID listen to the tracks. Again, it's half four in the morning, but that's often a good time to listen to music, don't you think?
Cheers guys and thanks. I'd recommend others to give your stuff a listen.
