Can anyone play "Procession" on Guitar n bass?

I love this song but its really hard to figure out :(

Does anyone have a tab or at least a hint towards some of the hard to find chords?

Just so think I'm not lazy () Here's what I' figured out and hope is right :)

Little guitar riff that comes in every now and again

To be honest I'm not even sure what Hookys 6 string is tuned to...but my friends 6 string bass is tuned like this so I hope so

and I think some of the chords Sumner plays at the intervals are

Played at the appropriate rhythm...

Anyone got a clue as to the harder parts?

'Procession' isn't there though, Sam! Good site though

Try having a look for a book - yellow cover - I have it somewhere, with NO tabs up to Thieves Like Us I think.

Oops. A little mistake methinks... (Well most of the others are there...)

If you go onto youtube and search New Order Procession the footage from the 1981 Ukranian House in NY concert will come up... You can get a fairly good idea from that video (especially the last ten or fifteen seconds on Bernard) of how they play it... While it doesn't seem like it at first, if you wait some shots of the fingering do show up...

The song that's up is one that was written about 12 years ago when I was in University and it's so New Order we should probably be sued but a great deal of that blame goes to the brilliant bass stylings of Jed Stephens (a fellow NOOL-er) who has truly and eerily channeled the spirit of Hooky.

I can't be arsed with all the nuances of the track, but the main riff at the beginning is

E 5-0-5-0-5-0-3-0-3-0-3-0 repeat

that is the main riff throughout the song and near the end when things start heating up Hooky just plays straight 33333 with aggressive attack instead of 3-0-3-0

after a little bit he goes an octave up

D 7-0-7-0-7-0-5-0-5-0-5-5 (note hits that last 5 twice)

another little bit in between Bernard singing

G---5---------7777 D 7---777-5-5

There's also the bit near the end, right at the end, which you need a six string for, I can't remember if you can play it on a 4-string, probably not, but the melody (which I write hear an octave lower so you can play it on 4-string( is:

G 14-14-14-12-12-12----------------------14-14-14-12x5 D ------------------14-14-14-12-11-12-11-------------------14x8

or something like that

You would think so, but Hooky does play the open string

Re. Rikki's original post, Hooky's bass is tuned EADGBE. Most 6 string basses these days have necks like baseball bats and have 2 lower strings but the Shergold has a much thinner neck.

Haven't got a clue what the guitar or bass lines are as I play the synth on that one!

I had a stab at the bass lines for procession today, you can do it on a four string, as long as it's 24 fret, you're on the top fret though, (sore fingers tonight!).

There are three basic low bass lines, one is just an octave higher than the first, with the exception of the open string, the other little riff at the end of the verses is tricky at first, but it's only three notes, and doesn't take too long to get the hang of.

the high bass lines are pretty simple, but would be easier on a six string (I realy must invest in one), the final high riff is a bit tricky but again, play it a few times and you're there.

Sorry I can't give you tabs, like Chris, I play by ear, I don't do tabs or notation.

Keep banging away it it, you'll soon be there, I'll leave the guitar for Kerry.

I can feel a cover version coming on!

This was written by Kerry and his pal Glen about 12 years ago (pre dating the title), Kerry sent it to me as an example of his singing and guitar, I loved it but thought it needed a bit of bass, so stuck that bass on it, Kerry and glen kindly agreed to putting it on as our first collaboration. the production aint spot on but when you consider that the original music was done on a four track, and the bass was stuck on, is pretty good.

My awful singing, sorry, you know why I needed a singer now! this song is just me, my bass, and cubase sx3, recorded with crappy speakers (I now have a pair of Adam A7's and have started acousticly treating my room so hopefully production will improve) using a crap goodmans mic, which came free with my wife's karoake machine.

The first Bass Badits song, I wrote the lyrics and had the structure worked out while I was waiting for my computer and software to be delivered, my first atempt at singing ( I have a major phobia of singing in public and won't even record with my wife in the house). I recorded it and uploaded it on myspace in about 4 hours from beggining to end, I just wanted to get something out! Moodswing

the second Bass Bandits tune, I wanted to do something like a New Order B-side instrumental, it was originally all synth, but then another tune I was working on wasn't getting anywhere, but I liked the intro, so put that on the end as a kind of chilled, drift off to sleep moment.

Thanks for the comments, all constructive criticism is taken on board. We're working on some more tracks, with Kerry's vocal, which is vastly better than mine, and his guitar is bloody good too, I'd love to get in a studio and record propperly, but as Kerry is in New York, and I'm in the equally prestigious Preston!, that aint gonna happen any time soon.

I'll keep you posted on the new stuff.

Ten Years Ago was literally done in an hour in my old Uni-Roommate's bedroom on a Fostex 4 track so hopefully at some point it can be re-recorded in a proper studio. We were listening to a fair bit of Revenge at the time so it shows...

And because I feel so bad about hijacking this thread I will tab out Procession on guitar when I have the time and post it.

And Jed, I'll email you later but it looks like I may be going to Blighty in July so who knows we may get a chance to record in person.

Sounds good to me, plenty of rock guitar on there, I do like to exfoliate the ears occasionaly. You've got a sound of your own, which is always good, I seem to sound like NO no matter what I do, I could probably write something in 4/5 and it'd sound like NO being experimental!, hopefully, working more with Kerry will help resolve that.

I do guitar on Procession when we do it, and also throw in the little bass riff that crops up every so often as well because Jimbo never plays it, plus the bass motif at the end that tells the rest of the band to stop playing ;)

stick yer fingers on frets 3, 1 and 0 on the B string to do the middle 8 part, with fret 2 on the G as the root of that riff, besides that it's pretty much just a C chord that I occasionally piss about with.
