Hi all,
I was curious about this- sorry if it is a dumb question, but as there are oodles of mixes available of New Order songs on the newer singles / releases, etc, (for example there are many for Guilt, Turn, Spooky, etc, like "stadium mix, "DJ so and so mix"... Does New Order mix these themselves or do they let the record companies do them? Do they have much creative control?
Just curious...

VERONICA-check the MUSIC link at top of threads and select SONG.Each one is like the example above.Where you see JAMES HOLDEN Heavy Dub means that he mixed/remixed it.Same with GABRIEL/DRESDEN.Hope that helps.

I don't think they have much control about who remixes the tracks nowadays, but I could be wrong?
In the Technique-era, however, that might have been a different story - certainly some of the remixes there were undertaken by people they would have known at the time (Hacienda DJ's, etc)...

Veronica - the band have little to no overall say as the record label own the publishing rights. Sometimes the band like the choice and the mix. Sometimes they don't.
Hum, not sure... I really hope the band does have some kind of word to say about it, but clearly not in the US though, so it prooves the label can do whatever they want, just like they didn't notify Mac Quale that his remix would be on the US album.
But some obvious picks like Stuart Price, Moby and The Chemical Brothers? (As well as Hacienda DJs)... hummmm...<
And yes, New Order did remix some songs themselves... first one I can think is the New Order mix of Regret...

I just recently discovered that Spooky's Out of Order Mix and the Out of Order - Specially Extended Version (which i'm tring to get a copy of this mix) is mixed by PAUL VAN DYK back when he was just starting.

I think most of the people who remix New Order turn in some of their worst efforts, Stuart Price being a prime example, his mixes for Missy Elliott, Madonna and Coldplay were far better than the stuff he turned in for NO. I know plenty on here dont like Coldplay, but his remix of Talk is top draw.

His remix of The Killers' Mr Brightside is awesome.
But still, Richard X did better with Jetstream, and BLT.
But Shep Pettibone is still the man.
I just recently discovered that Spooky's Out of Order Mix and the Out of Order - Specially Extended Version (which i'm tring to get a copy of this mix) is mixed by PAUL VAN DYK back when he was just starting.
I bet they came about because of Mark Reeder who ran MFS (which had Paul Van Dyk on the label at the time).
Sub Sub did some mixes of 'Spooky' too back in the day - never got used though. I guess that may have been a choice of Rob's.

The respective record companies commission the mixes. They have approval over the mixes. If the exercise it is a separate issue.
This is a very good topic. I was going to start a thread asking this same question. A lot of NO's remixes are simply fucking BRILLIANT! The two remixed tracks that I simply cannot get enough of is Crystal and Someone Like You. I mean seriously....if there were two pictures next to the word infectious, pictures of the sleeves to these two singles would be posted right there! John Digweed is simply the fucking man! Period! End of story! And Funk de Void, who remixed SLY is right up there with him!
C'mon guys, I cant be the only one who loves the Funk de Void remix of SLY, and the John Digweed mix of Crystal....RIGHT???
Oh and don't get me started on God(aka Francois Kevorkian)...
