It's a complete fucker that the NHS can't step in and cure everything that's wrong with them, especially when it's someone that we feel is important to us. But, as GlasVegas says, we need a more informed and intelegent debate than just pointing the finger around at the authority figures.
To accuse the NHS and the UK Government of lacking in effort in the detection and treatment of cancer is frankly insulting to the people who have devoted their lives to this important field.
Do some reading and find out what you're talking about. Here's a good start...

To be honest, I thought that the general gripe in this thread wasn't about what the government has spent on the NHS; rather what it could be spending there if it wasn't too busy killing people in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Absolutely disgusting. Tony has basically had a major impact on Manchester - the music, the culture, and the way the city has evolved into a very 'trendy' (awful word, I know) place. Therefore bringing in a LOT of money from outside Manchester, into Manchester.
Yet they won't fund a drug which 'costs' £3500 a month (it doesn't ACTUALLY cost that much, it's just thats the price the pharmacy company CHARGES for it).
An insult to the great man - as he has had SO much influence into how Manchester has evolved. I wish him the best of health, and thank him for what he has done and how he has (perhaps indirectly) changed our lives.

Good fookin' point. Someone should tell the same thing to the Australian Liberal(read: Proto-Conservative)government while they aid and abet Bush & Co. in Iraq
Anyway Tony, as said before, I totally support your stand on cosmetic procedure costs coming out of NHS's limited coffers
I really hope Tony manages to beat the fucker, as the world is a better place with him here. Whatever people think of him (and i don't think any of the abuse thrown at him over the years is meant with any conviction), he has always been one of the most genuine and caring people in the music industry, and it's a shame there haven't been more like him.
Despite all the sadness surrounding the news of his health, and especially the total joke which is the NHS drug lottery, i can't help smiling at the irony of the Happy Mondays paying for Tony's drugs! How things have changed.

I'm a bit dissapointed that despite numerous people in this thread saying they would like to contribute to the fund which has been set up that nobody from the site has got round to setting up a simple Paypal donate feature on the homepage.
It would be a far more worthy gesture than presenting Hooky with a CD of dodgy New Order cover versions.
Any comments from the webmaster or the mods?
The mods have no power here to do anything but delete messages. If I had the power to set such a feature up, believe me it would have been set up by now.

Can't we get Nic to sort something out? Even if all we managed to raise was a small amount of money towards one month's supply of drugs, that would be worthwhile, surely? 
Even i would be up for parting with some cash and i dont often do that, also i liked the idea of some event like a walk/run in manchester then a piss up.

It would seem plans for a fund raising "event" (i.e. gig!) organised by Wilson's many friends in the Manchester music scene is in the early stages of being planned for some time in early autumn.
Not for one second suggesting New Order as an enitity would be involved, but as individuals I'm sure they would be.
