In A Lonely Place 12" Version vs. Original 12" Mix

I'm sure, just like most if not all of you, collect different New Order versions of tracks. Here's one that I'm having a hard time figuring out.

I have my 12" Version from Substance 1987 way back in 1988. I'm familiar with the version, although it's not really one of my favorite tracks. And according to the discography here, there is a Original 12" Mix version of a song, that was only released as a B-side for the Ceremony single. Since the time is to close to call, (6:16 and 6;13) respectively, I downloaded every In A Lonely Place that I see as a B-side to Ceremony. I have now more than 10 files of IALP now, but when I listen to it, for me, it still sounds the same from beginning to end. I already played the sample Original 12" Mix from the song browser of this site, but for me, it still sounds the same and no I see no difference (anyway, it's just a 29-second sampler of the version). Or just maybe I still don't have the Original 12" Mix yet and all of my IALP 6-minute tracks are the 12" Versions.

Maybe anyone of you can help distinguish the difference. The time duration is really not a deciding factor, since mp3 is compressed music and there will be always a +/- of a few seconds. If you can mention the difference in specific time section where the difference lies, just like the Fine Time Album Version and the Alternate Album Version, the difference is just between in the 1:16 to 1:20 time section.

Wasn't an extra thunder clap the only difference between any of the 12" mixes?Not sure if there was even that.Just read it somewhere once.

The main difference is in the timing of the thunderclaps. The version I like best is the one where the first & loudest thunderclap comes in at exactly the same time as Hooky's bass - it's very powerful (the original 7" version is an edited version of this mix). The other version has the bass coming in on it's own and sounds a bit lame in comparison.

The drums sound different, the bass is sharper, better thunderclaps. Just better, much much better.

I've got a 6.01 version that I don't really like...it repeats the "Carressing the Marble and Stone" as if it were a chorus quite alot in the song. Is this an actual recording or a fan made version?

I still prefer the substance version though =]

Ah ok. Thanks dudes! Yes, I do hear those "minor" differences, but I do ignore it, for I'm looking for "significant" changes. Also, I guess I have to turn the TV off while I'm listening to my mp3s.

For the 6:01 version... Well, it's actually either the 12" Version or the Original 12" Mix. As I stated in my first post, mp3 is compressed music. Especially coming from vinyl, to convert it to mp3 takes a more complicated route compared to audio CD (or cda format) to mp3. I also have an IALP with times of 5:55 and 6:02 respectively. Also, I have a number of 12" Versions before that are either 10 seconds more or less than the time stated here. I already deleted them when I got a copy with a "more accurate" time.

As far as I am aware, it's the same recording - the Substance version is simply a remix of the original 12" Ceremony B-Side. The main difference to my ears is in the bass sound - it's higher in the mix and has added effects, possibly chorus, to make it cut through more.

I've also got a version that I'm about 99% sure is fan made. It fades out at the start of the bass solo and ends at about 4.30 =]
