To be fair, I've seen the amount of DJ sets Hooky has been doing both in this country and abroad, plus the amount he's got lined up. He also makes 'special appearances' for charity events, has recorded with Pottsy this year, receives and reviews demos from unknown bands and still gives interviews when he has the time. He also put in time for NOOL day when asked and even donated his fee to charity.
I haven't seen or heard much at all from Barney or Steve, though I may well have missed things. If so, could anyone enlighten me as to what they've both been up to this year (apart from the last bits with New Order) please as I'd like to catch up...? Have they hidden away in a studio to work hard on a new 'New Order' album, single and tour? 
I don't think it's fair to presume that Hooky is necessarily 'wrong' in what he has said until we know the whole truth, if ever. Maybe misguided in not just keeping quiet!
I do agree that both Barney and Steve (plus Gillian and Phil) have also worked hard over the years, but that does seem to have tailed off.
Perhaps there's more to life than work? Are they under any real obligation to entertain us? Hook's Dj'ing is easy money for him - good luck to him.
I'll just wait for something / nothing to happen and get on with life.

Hooky is DJing, while Bernard and Steve doesn't have any public activities right now.

It is obvious he's referring to the DJ work and why he's always the one who's asked about the split, it's no slur on the other band members at all. Yet another nothing story.

Thats what i thought blindingly obvious hooky means 'i'm out there, so thats why i'm being quoted' not 'the others are lazy so i won't work with them' which seems to be what the 'journalists' (wankers) are trying to make out

Look, why should we assume Hooky's words have been worked through the journalist's machine? He's said on camera he's sad about the split, with the kind of affect suggesting disappointment in Bernard and Steve. And whether or not Hooky is being honest, he certainly isn't the group spokesman just because he chooses to do interviews. A lot of people around here seem to endlessly defend Hooky and sympathize with him as if Bernard and Steve are dicks for being mum. If silence is what they prefer so be it, but it's getting obnoxious that people take this as an opportunity to slag off Bernard as lazy. Who wants a dispirited New Order? Not me, and if Bernard and Steve want a break, better that than more semi-karaoke.
I forget whether it was both Barney and Steve for saying this before, maybe it was just Barney but they've always been lazy.. that's how the song Blue Monday came about wasn't it? They wanted to just hit 'play', and leave the stage and let the music play by itself on computers?
Truth be told, yes, Hooky is one damned work/travelholic. His DJ schedule alone tells you that much, and his blog tells you even more.
Perhaps the difference in work ethic have spelt the band's doom (for now). I can't imagine the pressure of reaching middle age for each of them hasn't lent it's own encouragement/discouragement. One may be encouraged to output more music as well, and the others may feel "maybe we should take it slower".. especially when knowing how well (or not) received their last album was in sales.
From this true die hard fan.. I wish New Order would get back together and continue creating new and innovative sounds for us, but they are human after all.
Hooky is becoming more and more the official administrator of the New Order/Factory/Manchester inheritance. He seems to live from his past which is ok. But I sympathize with the rest of the band that is not "working hard" to become a human Madchester logo.
I hope it is the end, whilst I enjoyed the last bunch of gigs, the meet up was the best bit.

Have to say I'm in agreement
I know there's that whole thing about how amazingly seminal NewOrder were with their incredible freedom to make amazing ground-breaking music and do things entirely their own way.... But They're not at their creative best anymore really, are they? They have written some (very) good songs over the last two albums but (IMHO) it seems that they've run out of steam a bit.
And all that unpredictability that used to happen at 83/84/85 gigs has just gone... I appreciate that they're "better" live since about 89. But it's a wee bit too polished for me. I just prefer the earlier times, I guess...
Prepared to get slagged for this but....
Don't think you'll get too much negative reaction to the live comment - give me variety and equipment malfunction over the same setlist any day!

However, I'm not liking the amount of antiHookyism going on hereabouts. A bit of faith or loyalty or something seems owed to a chap who's never once dissappointed when he's picked up a bass for the thick end of 30 years.
And your maj, I think it's more likely he realised he'd be pissing into the wind.

See very little 'anti-Hooky' sentiment, more like raised eyebrows. I mean, barely a week goes by without someone slagging Bernard, whatever he's doing or not doing. They're both wonderfully talented, and as a musician I value both. It's too bad that fans on these boards are moving to take sides; all a bit infantile and discouraging.

Well, considering how often people say Bernard can't do anything right, I thought it'd be worth emphasizing the pair of them. My comment is certainly no more asinine or redundant than the typical 'Hooky Bass God' wanking or 'Gillian hottie back in the day' crap. But I'll be sure to refrain from stating the obvious in the future.
