Breakup just for Media Attention?

With Control, the soundtrack, and possibly WFTSC additions coming out soon, is this whole disenchanted Hooky thing done for media attention to promote sales? Granted the band has been on the brinks for a long time now, and this is nothing new...but with everything coming out soon...seems quite possible...NO has had more recent NME articles over the breakup than when WFTSC came out (to my knowledge at least).

Any thoughts on this?

Naaaa.... its the same old shite us poor buggers have been going through for years. This time, they are no longer at the top of the tree, and the media is not that wildly concerned, except perhaps to draw a line under them, finally. If they were cashing in, they'd be coining it with a tour supporting 'Control'.

If they got back together, and had a killer hit single lined up to release then 'wahey', but they haven't.

Don't think so either. Perhaps Hooky has been repeating himself publicly in order to get a response from Bernard and Steve, which he seems to have done finally. It's pretty anticlimatic, which I for one am glad for. Rather them become cranky and passive aggressive than saying something or doing something truly regrettable (showing surprise at Hooky's departure is a lot more diplomatic than, "Fine, Hooky's been fired", which is usually what happens when a band member claims a breakup). At this point it's confusion and a lot of talk. There's hope and a return to good sense yet, even if things have been a bit undignified as of late.

Surely, of all the years New Order have been on this planet this is the one year they won't have to exploit the media to their own ends?

"Control" is gonna stick them all in the limelight, whether they like it or not.

And, to be frank, most of this attention is surely quite adverse ... Hooky saying the band are finished ... and then the others saying, er, nope, we're not actually.

It's like Hooky's "boy who cried wolf" comment. Who gives a shit about New Order breaking up these days?! It's not like it hasn't happened before. Everyone just seems to shrug their shoulders and say, yeah, whatever, they'll be back in three years time.
