At the end of the day, everything you typed above is pure speculation. As Jack has repeated numerous times nobody really knows what went on. That cuts both ways and shouldn't serve to canonise Hooky while at the same time condemning Barney.

I didn't find Barney's statement pretentious, seemed pretty straightforward to me.

A small section of New Order fans seem to childishly think Barney is a wanker because he isn't as gregarious as Hooky when it comes to dealing with the fans (see Cambo's misguided reply). This whole "Hooky gave me a hug once and Barney's never done anything like that for the fans" attitude is simplistic bollocks and I suspect most of you know that.

It's certainly not enough of a reason to think you can accurately assign sole blame to either Hooky or Barney unless you're really in the know (I.e. Jack).

The sycophants are indeed taking over the asylum :nonono:

this is what my I try to say in all m ypostings concerning this matter...

No point in blaming anybody. It's just a shame that it's got messy. They provided the soundtrack to my life from my youth to my twenties - I thank them all for that.

i hate the word pretentious.imagine being on another message board and emo indie kids spouting out that word every five minutes.

thought the pic on the front of the webpage was awesome.

think maybe they'rejust bored with each other.driving each other batty and maybe "for realz"its time to drop it like a hot potato?

New Order, always shooting themselves in the foot. Not promoting themselves at all during their hey day, and pouring all their hard earned cash into the Hacienda.. and now this.

sad..

Barney seems to think that his "other projects" keeping him busy for a "few years anyway" will tie him over until Hooky comes to him.. the sad truth is, Hooky may not.. and where will he and New Order be?

As friends since they were little kids (yes, I've seen the grammar school banner), I'd imagine the only positive thing to do is to reach out to each other, both of them. F the media.. the media will spin even good things to bad just to make something sound more shocking to sell copies.

Like I said, they should get together and have a drink and at least be friends again about the whole thing.

They all need to get over themselves, as they aren't getting any younger and their time together to make their music is dwindling.

I think we're watching our boys (NO) fall apart! its very sad to read...i wish they would sort it all out and manage a way to carry on together. whats wrong with compromise, thats a part of life none of us can avoid...things could always be worse boys.

Hooky says that Bernard and Steve are 2/3 of New Order, is he intending to kill Gillian? :confused2:

Whatever the rights and wrongs of what has been said by the band members, it's happened. We'll get over it. Absolutely no point in anyone from here blaming anyone or taking sides, there will be at least two "truths" out there. Let them sort it out in peace, if they want to.

Good Shout !

Let the Band sort it out.....I think we are all sure that it will come good again in the end.

Hooky, Bernard, and Steve were the surviving members of Joy Division, the original three. Gillian left on her own, so maybe Hooky lumps here with Steve as "a third".

While it is very understandable that Phil is not given equal treatment in "ownership" of New Order, I wonder if anybody is telling him anything, at least out of respect, or just ignoring Phil? I'm sure he has figured out by now that he should be looking for other work.

"Sumner says. “I’ve working on two other projects at the moment so I’m kind of busy for the next couple of years anyway.”... kinda sounds like Bernard had already blow off his role in New Order for now, and had no intentions of finishing the next New Order album, hence maybe part of Hooky's irritation.

Remember Hook said that everybody knew about the split since February. I sincerely think that he is not lying. To me it's just Bernard's ego saying "He can't finish my band, I finish my band!!!"

I'm starting to see the light now. Hooky's big mouth, Barney's huge ego. I'm now waiting for Steve's comment.

Steve will say something silly.

I dunno, I find it hard to accept that Steve may have bothered Hooky too, but it may be the case. I just can't imagine what "evil steve" would be like.

Like I said above, he APPEARS to be the sort that as long as someone remembers to put the seat on his drumstool[1], doesn't give a fuck.

I'm still not really accepting how quickly folks have turned on Hooky. I'm hardly over the moon about what (or at least how) he's said and done, but there are two other massive factors for me......SOMETHING CAUSED him to be so angry. And secondly, even without reading Jack's "statement of the obvious for the terminally daft", even without enumerating and cataloging the things that make Hooky quite different not only from the remainder of NO, but also from most other well known musicians, surely anyone who's been into NO as long as some of us old cunts have, must have, at some gut level, a bit of bloody FAITH in the man.

Even if everything was entirely his fault, surely he's earned the same rights as your good mate who took a strop and called you a whorebag twat, a blind eye sort of thing?

Look, NO bugger is comfortable with what he's said, I'm certainly not, FFS I'm sure even HE's not comfortable with it. And saying that is fair enough (didn't see Jack or Heather handing our 2nd arseholes to anyone for it either), but this vitriol that a few folks are spouting, usually with a sniff of hollier than thou thrown in.....seriously WTF??????

What are J+H supposed to think reading this.......their fucking dad who's made ALL our lives better with his music (and often his wit), getting slagged half to death? I'm embarrassed for them and for us, but not half as embarrassed as I feel when I think of the man himself reading it.

As Jack keeps pointing out. NONE of US know the truth of everything that's gone on, and without that information, we cannot judge (as if we had a right to!!).

And yelling "tell us, tell us", that's just daft, how can he? yer asking a son to violate his dad's trust and privacy to satisfy a bunch of netcunts? How can Hooky, when things look like they could get letigious, when anything more than he's already said will just makes things, both in the band, and among the more excitable fans, even fucking harder???

Am I a suck up or a sycophant? well I dunno.....dya think if I say nice things about him, Hooky will give me his bass? FUCK RIGHT OFF!

Gillian doesn't allow Steve to speak in public...

from a psycho analyst's perspective it's not the healthiest thing for teenage kids if they are in a forum concerning their dad's "work".

nothing wrong with taking care of them, but remember maybe Barney's kids are reading this too.

Well put Doctor, you've raised some interesting points there.:thumb: Cheers!:thumb:

In response to Cambo's post, all good points and I agree.

The people who've laid into Hooky personally should hang their heads as far as I'm concerned. As you pointed out there's a different between moderately criticising the guy's MySpace blog and full-on laying into who he is. I sympathise with J+H and they shouldn't have to read such comments but unfortunately this is the net and that's the nature of the beast. It sucks but ultimately what can you do eh?

As I've said in other threads, I can't help but think Hooky's frankness has done him no favours in the long run. It's simplistic but if he hadn't posted the blog entries (See you in court!!! etc) then there's a large possibility none of these nasty comments would ever have appeared. Many fans see New Order as something very precious and when they read the bass player (apparently) demolishing the band in a blog then threatening legal action on the two people wanting to keep it going then it's not likely to bring out the best responses.

Again, this isn't what I think or is necessarily the truth but more what it reads like.

Hooky's entitled to say whatever he wants but he's got to be ready for all sorts of feedback including people giving him grief for what (they perceive) has gone on. Releasing little trickles of information is exactly what's caused all this. I hate to say it but "tell all or tell nothing" was probably the best policy here. One or the other and no in between otherwise you're inviting half-cocked opinions and comments.

Which is exactly what we've ended up with.

Am I a suck up or a sycophant? well I dunno.....dya think if I say nice things about him, Hooky will give me his bass?

Well, it worked for the Sultan Of Bling :evil4:

You're commenting to let us know you don't want to comment?

Aside from that, use your grey matter, Ron. It's a relatively big event in the New Order calender; the band calling it a day for good. Especially under such acrimony, do you seriously expect the forums to be silent?

These boards would be deadly dull to visit if everyone "chose not to comment".

Besides, if anyone in the band seriously give two fcuks about what any twat on these boards has to say (aside from Jack, natch) then never mind Hooky but Barney and Steve should probably call it a day for good as well

well do we know the full story? no we don't. hence anything here other than the blogs is speculation, and people are so quick to apportion blame.

and yes I am using my noggin.

Human nature. Innit?

At the end of the day I follow 'New Order'.

Hooky doesn't want to be in 'New Order' anymore and, indeed, now no longer wants 'New Order' to carry on as a brand.

What is there to like in that?!

I don't think Hooky's my 'best mate' like half of this forum appear to so if people want to air their grievances about him, let them.

And he's not 'your mate' either Cambo, so I don't see why you're getting so righteous over this one.

I didn't think I was being all righteous. At any rate, I wasn't talking about people not liking it, I was talking about people demonizing him to an extent. As you say though, human nature.

I'm hardly fuckin thrilled about the situation, as has been said elsewhere, the whole of NO is infinitely more than the sum of it's parts, and nothing any of them do in isolation is going to be half as good.

Dear fellows,

In my point of view this "elaborated crisis" is just a strategy to capitalize in the years to come...I mean New Order has just made a great job in the Latest Waiting for The Sir....it does not make sense or marketing or publicity or money to launch a new one now or in a couple of years...Come on....the greatest Manchester guys are in the age of 50´s.. do not have the same energy as in the past......... So let´s wait another 5 years and we´re going to be surprised with New Order again...I´ll be very happy and greatfull with my 50´s coming and still listenning new stuff of New Order.. Let´s wait and see I bet on that... Best Regards Ed

I go on holiday leaving New Order in trouble, I come back and it's even worse. Well, at least Bernard has finally said something. It's good to know he's working on new projects. I've been hearing a lot of Electronic during my holidays, after years of forgetting them, they were much better than I remembered. Actually I loved all their albums back on their release, it's just that I kinda tended to forget them in favour of New Order and mantained better memories of Revenge, but they were almost as good as Revenge really. Often their best songs are better than an average New Order song... So I'm really looking forward for something new from Bernard. And I'm really looking forward to hear Freebass, especially if Robbie Williams joins for a couple of tracks, I think he'd just sound right in a band like that. Let's just look forward. Bernard is right when he says Hooky needs to chill out, though childish when saying if he wants to sort it out he has to make the first step. I'd just like to say I don't think Barney and Steve carrying on as New Order is a good idea, and Hooky even thinking about negotiating with them to get money to authorize them to do so is an even worse idea. Whatever, I don't care anymore. New Order are dead (as we used to know them - Barney'n'Hook - at least), though they could resurrect in a distant future. We probably won't ever know the whole truth. I'd just like to hear the finished songs from the planned follow up to WTFSC. If there aren't any, I just want to hear new music from Bernard and Peter, whatever their projects' names are. After all, it's their music coming from these earphones, not their difficult relationships... ON TO THE MUSIC
