"Think Tony invented his own film in which he lived"

Step On and LWTUA played.

Shaun Ryder when asked if he dropped off a tape to him said .. NO -drop out weed for him!

AWH-people have treated me with contempt.Suddenly i am dying of cancer and EVERYONE loves me.

Steve Morris......great thing about Tony is he would JUST GO AHEAD AND DO IT.

Paul Morley also said ....... FACTORY so important.Tony was an intellectual in popular culture.Tony saw importance in things.ALL very important.

Steve looked like he's aged 20 years tonight. He looked on the verge at one moment

It's a very northern attitude. In London they would smile and not mean it. In Manchester, they would call you a cunt and only half-mean it - but only because you might have thought you were better than everybody else.

Tony got pantomime boos whenever he made a public appearance. The difference is, we all knew he was a great bloke really. It just wasn't the done thing to show it.

Wilson and Factory Records was the pilot light that ignited the 21st Century Manchester resurgence. I hope there'll be a huge gig to celebrate him.

Can't remember which one said it but it was something like " if we'd told Tony we loved him he'd never have been the presence he was , would never have achieved what he did"

Agreed. Still remarkably camera-shy after all these years. They know what must happen next. Makes all this squabbling seem pathetic, now that Rob and Tony have gone from their own age group.

i hope somebody can put this online.

There's a bit of Stephen's quotes here from the NME

New Order and Joy Division's Stephen Morris has paid tribute to Tony Wilson who died tonight (August 10).

The drummer's bands were both signed by the legend's Factory Records and he in turn became an important guiding force on their career.

"There would be no Joy Division or New Order without Tony," Morris told Newsnight. "He really believed in us and he was smart enough to start a label and put our records out."

He added: "He was so enthusiastic, he was always 'we'll just go ahead an do it and figure out why we did it afterwards. It was his sense of enthusiasm that was so important. You could have an argument with Tony and walk out hating him and the next time you saw him it was all forgotten. You just love him."

Found this really hard to watch at the time.

Four blokes of an age, talking about their mate they'd known for 30+ years who'd literally just died 5hrs earlier.

Poignant stuff. Touched the heart-strings.

I agree. I think he was just trying to be strong, in his own adorable Mr. Morris manner.

A+ for good behavior, :stephen:.

Steve was like that because, as always, he was nervous. Has anyone ever seen him interviewed on national news before? If it was me, I wouldn't know whether to smile, cry or poop myself. I think they all behaved admirably.

I'm sure it warms the cockles of Steve the Boys heart to have you grade him so highly. Maybe he was just thinking of the tea and biscuits that were waiting for him when he got home to Gillian and the girls...or maybe he was thinking he'd take the lasses for a jaunt through the countryside in one of the tanks....

Tony would have hated to have been associated with 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. It's a Liverpool FC song and he was a lifelong Man United fan. It was always amusing on Granada Reports when he didn't even attempt to conceal his dislike of the club.

"fuck, I hope that as Tony goes through the Pearly gates, he doesn't find himself greeted by Rob and Martin with their hands out for money".

In Tony's heaven, there's no London.

If Hannett were in heaven.....we've been grossly misled

Support would be a bitch on a CMI series I, cos I'm pretty sure Vogel and Ririe are the only two sods who know how it goes, and I don't think they've snuffed it.

THen again, perhaps in the kingdom of $DEITY, Fairlights don;t self destruct?

I found some of your comments on Hooky's blog about Tony's death offensive. You are going on about how you were one of the first people to post on NOOL when the news of his death came through- like , what? its a competition to post first when someone dies? And this "one of New Order wil be next to die" shit.I'm sure Hooky loved to read that

Hey, that 'One of NO will be next to die' comment was made by someone else. I was just stating that I understood that and agreed to it. Now stop getting your ill-temper in the wrong place and understand that everyone's got an opinion... and that you shouldn't be such an asshole about it.

You want to fly this at me, be a mature thinking person and send an IM at me. Don't post stuff that's gonna end up turning this site into an unnecessary bitchfest in a forum in public.

You have an issue with me, deal with it in private. Thank you PLENTY.

End of.

Steve did a grand job, as did Paul Morley, Peter Saville and Richard Madeley - big surprise to see him in there, maybe he used to go to the Hacienda in disguise. Thought it was a fantastic tribute, I don't think AHW would want people to be too depressed but would prefer for them to focus on his legacy, which is, love him or hate him, truly unique. Shame he didn't get to contribute more to politics, he certainly had what it takes to acheive something that mattered. I would have loved to have seen his north west parliament idea succeed.
