Thanks, Chris! Bartos was always a bit of an anigma to me. Turns out a nice German gentleman. It feels he's not much into the past (i.e. Kratfwerk era)

He really wasn't keen on talking about his previous band, so as he was being so genuine and helpful, I really didn't want to push it. Besides, he's doing so many more varied things since then that learning about him and his life after KW seemed more pertinent, especially on a New Order site.

Anyway, thanks for everyone's comments. I'm working on more interviews at the moment. And no, even Nic doesn't know for sure who the next one will be...

great interview!!! a big coincidence: i have been listening to karl bartos´ solo work this very week, and really sounds great.... he has nothing to envy to his old mates from KW: in fact some arrangements and melodies made me think he was more important in that band than that is currently admitted. so it was a nice surprise to come to NOOL and find this unexpected interview. im a big fan of kw as well as New order´s so it was a perfect match. congratulations chris! keep on the good work!!! :clap:

The 'sacking' of Flur and Bartos was a massive loss to Kraftwerk, imo.

As good as Tour de France Soundtracks is it does wander off into Underworld territory and has all but lost the little hooks and melodies of earlier KW output. Bartos's solo work is chock full of those little twists and melodies and singalong lyrics - sounds a bit childish at times but would've been wonderful woven back into KW's soundscapes.

Actually, I don't know why I mentioned Flur in the same breath as Bartos in the first sentence. His solo work was utter cack. Although he did write a fabulous book.

I've just read the book by P.Bussy, and I'm half way through Wolfgang Flurs' at the moment.

The first book makes it sound like Karl and Wolfgang got bored waiting for 5 years whilst Ralf and Florian digitised their whole archive.

I don't blame them wanting to leave and make music. Fcuk cycling 200km a day just to be in a band..... :skeptic:

Flur's book is easily one of the best muzo books I've ever read. He's really - for want of a better word - rather 'sweet' - and his child-like enthusiasm is a joy to behold. Love all the groupie stuff. He writes as if to say, "Look. It's girls! Woo. We're shagging them!"

If a cunt was ever that fcuking happy around me all day too though, I'd sack 'em as well! :nonono:

It's easier to translate an english interview with german speaking people into german in comparison to an interview of an english man. But the main problem was to translate the word sound. There are a few similiar words in german, but none of these are exactly the same as sound.

Made up a best of, includes Robots, Autobahn, Trans Europa, Computerworld, Tour De France, Neon Lights and a few others. The young bird next door keeps playing Garage Rave which shakes my house, so it's only fair I blast them with all my stuff ranging from Dylan & The Faces through Punk, Ska, Early Rave and Madchester.

The lad next door is into Ian Brown which is good, but Razorlight which is a :nonono:

You did a cracking job, young man!

You did well not to dwell on his 'former band' a lot although I was dying to read some juicy stuff!

My neighbours - fortunately I have them only one side - are as quiet as church mice musically which is a bit mundane although I do enjoy them arguing sometimes and shouting at the kids! I punish them with lots of the Order, Ladytron, Sparks etc. My former neighbour was cool with my music until he came round one day to complain the bassline I was programming was so low it was rattling his windows!
