I was just watching this live version of WFTSC from the NYC 2005 show...

Has anyone noticed the really cool Synth riff that Phil plays during the beginning of this song?

He is playing the main chirds of the song using some realy cool growly synth sound.....

Ive not hear it in other versions.

Its right at the beginning...Phil is playing the chords in his Roland and it sounds wicked.

Did he do this at any other shows?

Hey! I do like Phil!

He is a great guitarist, prolly the best in the band, and he wrote most of the music for Hey Now What Ya Doing?, which is one of my fave songs from WFTSC.

Also, his energy onstage is really awesome, I lke how he dances and hops about.

The only thing that I never liked about Phil was that some the songs main synth parts that would have been played live when Gillian was in the group are now on the backing track so Phil can play guitar parts which I dont think really add much.

For instance....the way the do Regret nowdays. Phil plays all of Gillians synth parts on his guitar....and I think it sounds just awful.

In spite of that though, I enjoy Phils energy when they are onstage, and he seems like a pretty nice guy.

And I really liked all of the additional keyboard parts and samples that he played the live 05/06 versions of Blue Monday. It was he who played all the Kylie samples and what not. He seemed to get a lot more into playing BM on the 05/06 shows.....as did the whole band, actually.

So I think Phil's a good guy and did good things in the band. Ive been to hard on him in the past. I'd rather have NO minus Gillian and plus Phil than no NO at all!

Now...back to my question......did anyone else notice the cool synth part he played at the beginning of this live version of WFTSC? Did he do it at any other shows.

god -- Barney's so awful flat on this version (not that we could tell otherwise)

a shame for what I think are some of his best lyrics

I think he sounds alright. Singing live can be hard sometimes. from what i can recall...the sound at the NYC show was really off.

I agree about the lyrics though......some of Barneys best ever. obviously very personal for him. His best lyrics are his most personal. I mean....in terms of lyrics....I think Republic has his best writing. The whole album, lyrically, reads like a novel.

But then, if you really want an mp3 of that, I used to have the entire concert, which I got from soulseek, but when I got my DVD copy, i deleted it.
